The distribution of cadmium- (Cd-) binding components in flaxseed (cultivar NorMan) containing 0.526 ppm (ng/mg) Cd was investigated. Proteins extracted from dehulled, defatted flaxseed were fractionated by anion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography. The contents of Cd and other metals, UV/visible spectral characteristics, and amino acid compositions of these fractions were analyzed. Over 66% of the eluted Cd was recovered by 0.1 M NaCl elution from DEAE-Sephacel, in a thiol-rich fraction representing only 7% of the extracted proteins. OBJECTIVE: In recent years bioabsorbable synthetic or biologic materials have been used to augment the pulmonary artery or the right ventricular outflow tract. However, each of these polymers has one or more shortcomings. None of these patch materials has been seeded with cells. The atypical course after laparoscopic conservative treatment of tubal pregnancy is described. Routine measurements of the serum HCG levels postoperatively showed, after a short period of decreasing HCG levels, a new increase of HCG values. Under the suspicion of a disseminated intraperitoneal trophoblastic tissue the patient was treated with 20 mg methotrexate q.i.d. per os for 5 days, as a result of which HCG levels returned to normal within a short time.

Microvascular endothelial cells from human omental samples were isolated and grown. Adhesion to polytetrafluoroethylene vascular graft material was then studied using scanning electron microscopy and adhesion of cells labelled with indium-111. Grafts coated with fibronectin and type I collagen were found to promote the best adhesion of cells at times up to 90 min. A coating of blood clot matrix was less effective but still resulted in a threefold increase in cell adhesion compared with controls.

We describe the magnetic resonance findings in two cases of spinal subarachnoid seeding from an intracranial metastatic lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging techniques using T1 and intermediate T1-T2 pulse sequences improve anatomical definition of the spinal cord-thecal sac and allow for optimal contrast to define metastatic deposits in the subarachnoid space. Heavily T2 weighted pulse sequences do not appear to be useful in the diagnosis of subarachnoid metastases.

Avocado (Persea americana) is an economically important tree crop that exhibits a high rate of immature fruit abscission (IFA), reducing yield. INTRODUCTION: The alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA) has shown excellent performance in the detection of Lewy body pathology in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Lewy body pathology is prognostically relevant in patients at risk for dementia. Current assays only provide binary results, so there is a need to quantify the extent of pathology in living patients.
