The incidence of primary genital herpes among women of the childbearing age in Khabarovsk is 2.6% or from 0 to 10.4 per 1000. Asymptomatic herpes simplex virus (HSV) carrier state in the genital tract was detected in 24.1 +/- 5.2% normal women. The virus-carrier state exerts untoward effects on the course of pregnancy and condition of the fetus. In women infected with HSV, the hazard of abortion is 1.8 times as frequent, premature delivery is 3.2 times as frequent, and children of such mothers have symptoms of intrauterine hypotrophy 4.5 times as frequently as normally.

PURPOSE: To study the prevalence and structure of ophthalmic pathology in Tubalars, rural indigenes of the Altai Republic, for the benefit of the eye care system.

The rate of metastasis of high differentiated carcinoma of the thyroid glands to the neck lymph nodes was studied in people of Kemerovo Region. AIM: To study features of immune status and causative agents of severe pneumonia in patients with influenza A/H1N1.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-seven isolates from 43 patients with pneumonia, which complicated pandemic influenza A/ H1N1 and treated in Chita city clinical hospital No.1 as well as 32 immunograms were retrospectively studied. Comparison of immunologic and epidemiologic status of patients with influenza A/ H1N1 complicated by pneumonia was performed. Data on dynamics of epidemic process and outcomes are presented.

The aim is to estimate extragenital diseases, course of pregnancy and delivery in mothers of children with congenital glaucoma and to study somatic and neurological status of these children. Extragenital comorbidity was found in 76.3% of studied women. 47.6% of women had burdened obstetric history. Inactivated vaccine against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), prepared on the basis of strain 205, is characterized by epidemiological (53%) and immunobiological activity. The appearance of a few TBE cases among the vaccinees is probably due to different maturation rate of immune response to various strains (different specificity of immune response). A suggestion has been made that no inactivated vaccine prepared from a single strain can produce a reliable protective effect because of pronounced heterogeneity of the population of TBE virus.

Screening of immunomodulating properties of 45 tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus strains isolated in the southern part of the Soviet Far East was carried out. TBE virus strains were found to have different effects on the immune responsiveness of host splenocytes. Based on the long-term follow-up of 655 patients with different forms of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), the authors describe its present clinical characteristics in the Baikal natural focus. They have established the preponderance of the meningeal form of the infection and the relatively severe course with residual phenomena and a fatal outcome in patients with the poliomyelitic form of TBE.

A hundred and sixty-five first detected patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, receiving routine chemotherapy regimens were followed up for 4 months. Neurotoxic reactions of the central and peripheral nervous systems, which required isoniasid discontinuation, were developed in 13.3 and 11.5% of the patients, respectively. We have screened index cases from 25 Russian breast/ovarian cancer families for germ-line mutations in all coding exons of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, using multiplex heteroduplex analysis. In addition we tested 22 patients with breast cancer diagnosed before age 40 without family history and 6 patients with bilateral breast cancer.
