Adaptation Process of a Culturally Tailored Smoking Cessation Intervention for People Living With Severe Mental Illness in South Asia: IMPACT 4S.

INTRODUCTION: Despite high smoking prevalence in people from low- and middle-income countries living with severe mental illness (SMI), smoking cessation interventions adapted for this population and context are lacking. This article describes the adaptation process of a smoking cessation intervention for people living with SMI in South Asia. METHODS: The adaptation process followed the first nine steps of the Escoffery framework for adapting health interventions, complemented by the Stirman adaptation classification to document the modifications. This was conducted by an interdisciplinary cod

Overall satisfaction, sexual function, and the durability of neophallus dimensions following staged female to male genital gender confirming surgery: the Institute of Urology, London U.K. experience.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: What factors influence transgender men's decisions to undergo (and to not undergo) specific genital gender confirming surgeries (GCS) has not been described in the literature. Sexual function outcomes related to clitoral transposition and penile prosthesis placement is also not well described. Durability of neophallus dimensions after phalloplasty has not been described. A better understanding of these factors is necessary for pre-op counseling. We sought to assess patient genital-GCS related satisfaction, regret, pre/post-op sexual function, genital preferences, and ge

Single stage primary anastomosis without colonic lavage for left-sided colonic obstruction due to acute sigmoid volvulus: a prospective study of one hundred and ninety-seven cases.

UNLABELLED: Combating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is still a problem, despite the development of numerous drug delivery approaches. Mucin1 (MUC1), a glycoprotein linked to chemo-resistance and progressive malignancy, is unregulated in TNBC. GO-201, a MUC1 peptide inhibitor that impairs MUC1 activity, promotes necrotic cell death by binding to the MUC1-C unit. The current study deals with the synthesis and development of a novel nano-formulation (DM-PEG-PCL NPs) comprising of polyethylene glycol-polycaprolactone (PEG-PCL) polymer loaded with MUC1 inhibitor and an effective anticancer d

High antimicrobial photodynamic activity of photosensitizer encapsulated dual-functional metallocatanionic vesicles against drug-resistant bacteria S. aureus.

Developments in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) are being made by investigating appropriate photosensitizers (PSs) and enhancing the penetration effect of light by developing new nano-carriers. So, to boost the PDT effect, in the present work, new metallocatanionic vesicles were fabricated by a convenient, efficient, green and inexpensive method to encapsulate PSs and evaluate their antimicrobial PDT against the drug-resistant bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. They were prepared from a combination of a double-chained copper-based cationic metallosurfactant (CuCPCII) and an anionic surfa

The "Information Paradox" in crime prevention: how spatial context and age moderate the impact of safety advisories on residents' perception of safety.

BACKGROUND: Effective crime prevention communication is a cornerstone of urban public health and psychological well-being. However, the psychological impact of safety advisories on residents remains poorly understood. This study investigates the "Information Paradox," the phenomenon where crime prevention tips may inadvertently heighten fear rather than provide reassurance, and explores how spatial delivery channels and demographic factors moderate this relationship. METHODS: Drawing on a survey of residents in Nanjing, China, this study employed ordinal logistic regression (OLR) models to an

Experimental and clinical standards, and evolution of lasers in neurosurgery.

From initial experiments of ruby, argon and CO2 lasers on the nervous system so far, dramatic progress was made in delivery systems technology as well as in knowledge of laser-tissue interaction effects and hazards through various animal experiments and clinical experience. Most surgical effects of laser light on neural tissue and the central nervous system (CNS) are thermal lesions. Haemostasis, cutting and vaporization depend on laser emission parameters--wavelength, fluence and mode--and on the exposed tissues optical and thermal properties--water and haemoglobin content, thermal conductivi

Prevention of microbial biofilms - the contribution of micro and nanostructured materials.

Microbial biofilms are associated with drastically enhanced resistance to most of the antimicrobial agents and with frequent treatment failures, generating the search for novel strategies which can eradicate infections by preventing the persistent colonization of the hospital environment, medical devices or human tissues. Some of the current approaches for fighting biofilms are represented by the development of novel biomaterials with increased resistance to microbial colonization and by the improvement of the current therapeutic solutions with the aid of nano (bio)technology. Research on Low-Damage CO2 Foam Flooding System: Review and Outlook.

Tight oil reservoirs are widely recognized as a critical successor in global unconventional energy development and are generally characterized by distinct geological features, including fine pore throats, pronounced heterogeneity, and a high concentration of clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite and mixed-layer illite/smectite). Severe hydration, swelling, and fines migration are readily induced during water injection or conventional water-based fluid operations, thereby resulting in irreversible impairment of reservoir permeability. Despite the excellent injectivity and capacity for viscosity
