Optical coherence tomography angiography vessel density parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma.

BACKGROUND: Many studies suggest the existence of an alteration of the retinal hemoperfusion in primary open-angle glaucoma. The OCT-A is a novel technique that allows to provide information on retinal microcirculation in a non-invasive way, thus it represents a possible imaging target for the early diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma. The aim of our work is to evaluate the contribution of vascular parameters provided by OCT-A and their diagnostic abilities in the different stages of primary open-angle glaucoma. METHOD: This is a prospective cross-sectional study involving 200 eyes of control

Hypotony maculopathy captured with vertical rasters on optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.

PURPOSE: To remind eye care providers of the importance of obtaining vertical rasters in OCT evaluation of patients with suspected hypotony maculopathy. OBSERVATIONS: OCT with vertical rasters may identify chorioretinal folds that are missed by ophthalmoscopic examination, fundus photography, and traditional OCT with horizontal rasters alone. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTANCE: In patients with low IOP and decreased vision, OCT imaging with horizonal and vertical rasters should be obtained to diagnose hypotony maculopathy and monitor response to treatment.

Standardization of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Imaging Biomarkers in Diabetic Retinal Disease.

Optical coherence tomography Angiography (OCT-A) represents a revolution in the noninvasive evaluation of retinal and choroidal circulation especially in detecting early clinical signs of diabetic retinal disease (DRD). With appropriate use, OCT-A characteristics and measurements have the potential to become new imaging biomarkers in managing and treating DRD. Major challenges include (a) provision of standardized outputs from different OCT-A instruments providing standardized terminology to correctly interpret data; (b) the presence of artifacts; (c) the absence of standardized grading or int

Developing a normative database for retinal perfusion using optical coherence tomography angiography.

Visualizing and characterizing microvascular abnormalities with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has deepened our understanding of ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Two types of microvascular defects can be detected by OCTA: focal decrease because of localized absence and collapse of retinal capillaries, which is referred to as the non-perfusion area in OCTA, and diffuse perfusion decrease usually detected by comparing with healthy case-control groups. Wider OCTA allows for insights into peripheral retinal vascularity,

Colon phantoms with cancer lesions for endoscopic characterization with optical coherence tomography.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a growing imaging technique for real-time early diagnosis of digestive system diseases. As with other well-established medical imaging modalities, OCT requires validated imaging performance and standardized test methods for performance assessment. A major limitation in the development and testing of new imaging technologies is the lack of models for simultaneous clinical procedure emulation and characterization of healthy and diseased tissues. Currently, the former can be tested in large animal models and the latter can be tested in small animal disease mo

QUANTITATIVE TOPOGRAPHIC CURVATURE MAPS OF THE POSTERIOR EYE UTILIZING OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY.

PURPOSE: Deformations of the retina such as staphylomas in myopia or scleral flattening in high intracranial pressure can be challenging to quantify with en face imaging. We describe an optical coherence tomography-based method for the generation of quantitative posterior eye topography maps in normal and pathologic eyes. METHODS: Using "whole eye" optical coherence tomography, we corrected for subjects' optical distortions to generate spatially accurate posterior eye optical coherence tomography volumes and created local curvature (KM, mm-1) topography maps for each consented subject. We ima

Endomicroscopy of the human cochlea using a micro-optical coherence tomography catheter.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is one of the most profound public health concerns of the modern era, affecting 466 million people today, and projected to affect 900 million by the year 2050. Advances in both diagnostics and therapeutics for SNHL have been impeded by the human cochlea's inaccessibility for in vivo imaging, resulting from its extremely small size, convoluted coiled configuration, fragility, and deep encasement in dense bone. Here, we develop and demonstrate the ability of a sub-millimeter-diameter, flexible endoscopic probe interfaced with a micro-optical coherence tomography

Palytoxin-Related Keratoconjunctivitis Assessed by High-Resolution Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography.

Palytoxin (PTX) is produced by corals such as zoanthid corals. Here we present a case of bilateral PTX-induced keratoconjunctivitis. A 63-year-old man presented to the emergency department with symptoms of red eye, purulent discharge, and foreign body sensation in both eyes. On slit lamp examination, epithelial defects in both eyes with a ring-shaped corneal stromal infiltrate in the right eye and a marginal stromal infiltrate in the left eye were noted. High-resolution anterior segment optical coherence tomography (HR-AS-OCT) showed stromal hyperreflectivity and Descemet folds. Bacterial, fun

Impact of Scan Tilt on Quantitative Assessments Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

PURPOSE: To investigate the impact of scan tilt on quantitative assessments using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) in healthy participants. METHODS: Healthy participants were imaged with a SS-OCTA system (PLEX Elite 9000; Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc, Dublin, CA). After a standard scan was obtained, tilted scans were obtained by moving the optical coherence tomography beam entrance position horizontally. The tilting angle was measured from the B-scan image, and the flattest (horizontal) and the most tilted images were selected for comparative analysis. Foveal avascul
