In a 1.5-year-old male hunting dog, a urethral defect distal to the pelvic flexure and the resulting urethral fistula were treated with a mucosal graft and a transurethral catheter. Six months postoperatively a stricture of the urethra occurred. Following balloon dilatation, urination was normal. One month after dilatation, urethral narrowing relapsed and was treated using a combination of balloon dilatation and urethral stent implantation. Ureaplasma parvum, which has been recognised as a coloniser in the male urethra, is detected in some men with non-gonococcal urethritis. Malignant melanoma of the urethra is a rare tumour that is difficult to diagnose and treat, resulting in a poor prognosis. In this paper, we present the case of a 65-year-old woman who was referred to a gynaecologist because of a urethral mass that mimicked a caruncle. The tumour was removed by local excision, and a pathological analysis revealed a malignant melanoma. Distal urethrectomy was performed after three months with no evidence of residual tumour. Complete duplication of the bladder and urethra without other congenital anomalies is a very rare congenital anomaly. We report the case of an 8-year-old boy with complete duplication of the bladder and urethra in the coronal plane, without any other associated congenital anomalies and without complaint associated with the urinary tract.

In a sexually transmitted disease clinic-based sample of men who have sex with women, positivity for urethral Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae was 3.5% and 3.1%, respectively, among patients whose only urethral exposure in the previous 3 months was receiving fellatio from a woman. Urethral infections acquired by fellatio might contribute to ongoing disease spread.

Leiomyomas are benign neoplasms arising from smooth muscle cells. We describe the case of a 17-year-old boy admitted with progressive severe obstructive voiding symptoms. Retrograde urethrography showed a bulbous urethral stricture which was resected with primary urethral anastomosis. Histopathological examination confirmed the very rare case of a leiomyoma of the urethra. In patients with urethral stricture, leiomyoma should be included in the diagnostic considerations.

BACKGROUND: Urologists often perform procedures on anterior urethra, which is one of the most sensitive parts in male patients. The aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of intracorpus spongiosum anesthesia during procedures on anterior urethra in the outpatient clinic.

PURPOSE: Despite the concept that the spongy urethra is a unique entity clinical evidence suggests the existence of segmental structural differences. The spongy urethra has a vascular nature, its cells may express different phenotypes and the extracellular matrix that they synthesize should reflect these differences. OBJECTIVE: Describe the results of surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for treatment of primary malignant neoplasms of female urethra.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Since 1982, 31 patients with urethral cancer were evaluated at our institution (follow-up ranging from 0 to 127 months). Ten patients were treated with external beam irradiation and 1 patient received preoperative therapy after surgery. Two patients refused treatment and 1 received chemotherapy. Three patients presented with disseminated metastatic disease at the first examination received exclusively palliative treatment.
