A new approach for single-haptic retropupillary iris-claw lens subluxation - The "fencing" technique.

INTRODUCTION: Single-haptic iris-claw intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation is not an uncommon complication. A few different surgical techniques are available for its refixation but usually involve a more invasive approach. We aim to demonstrate an original and simple approach for refixation of single haptic retropupillary iris-claw IOL subluxations. METHODS: We present a case of an 80-year-old male with a single haptic retropupillary iris-claw IOL subluxation in a previously vitrectomized eye. We used a new surgical approach to refix this type of subluxation. RESULTS: This new technique uses o

Descriptive analysis of the type and design of contact lenses fitted according to keratoconus severity and morphology.

PURPOSE: Keratoconus is characterized by bilateral asymmetrical corneal ectasia that leads to inferior stromal thinning and corneal protrusion. There is currently a lack of consensus regarding the most efficacious method for fitting contact lenses in patients with keratoconus, given the various topographical patterns and evolution grades observed in affected populations. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the association between keratoconus evolution grade and topography pattern and the type and design of fitted contact lens. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of con

Contact Lens Use in Patients With Boston Keratoprosthesis Type 1: Fitting, Management, and Complications.

The Boston type 1 keratoprosthesis (KPro) is the most commonly used artificial cornea worldwide. Long-term bandage contact lenses are the standard of care for patients with these devices. The goal of bandage contact lenses is to maintain hydration and to protect the corneal tissue that surrounds the anterior plate of the keratoprosthesis which is vulnerable to desiccation, epithelial breakdown, dellen formation, and corneal melt. Contact lenses can also improve comfort, correct refractive errors, and improve the cosmesis of patients with artificial corneas. However, the continuous use of conta
