BACKGROUND: Bacitracin is widely used in operating rooms to soak implants, irrigate compound fractures, and apply to surgical incisions. However, bacitracin is a known sensitizer and causes not only allergic contact dermatitis but also anaphylaxis.

Following insect sting anaphylaxis, twenty-five patients of over 500 evaluated, did not have detectable serum venom-specific IgE. Twenty-two were evaluated within 1 year of the reaction, fifteen within 6 months. Anaphylaxis occurred in six patients after their first sting exposure. Deep femoral and pelvic phlebothrombosis represents a safe indication for thrombolytic therapy, despite the fact that additionally considered surgical measures have increasingly been brought up for discussion very recently. While numerous studies are being considered for treatment with streptokinase, only sporadically does one hear of reports about therapy using Urokinase. In the case of a deep pelvo-femoral phlebothrombosis we decided to carry out thrombolytic treatment using Urokinase, the originally planned streptokinase treatment having had to be terminated owing to an allergic reaction.
