Gaining Insight into the Role of the Solvent during Spray Drying of Amorphous Solid Dispersions by Studying Evaporation Kinetics.

Spray drying is one of the most commonly used manufacturing techniques for amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs). During spray drying, very fast solvent evaporation is enabled by the generation of small droplets and exposure of these droplets to a heated drying gas. This fast solvent evaporation leads to an increased viscosity that enables kinetic trapping of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in a polymer matrix, which is favorable for the formulation of supersaturated, kinetically stabilized ASDs. In this work, the relation between the solvent evaporation rate and the kinetic stabilizati

Overtaking risk modeling in two-lane two-way highway with heterogeneous traffic environment of a low-income country using naturalistic driving dataset.

INTRODUCTION: Driver behavior related to overtaking maneuvers, which are considered a major safety risk determinant on two-lane two-way highway in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), are an important subject of further analysis. This study evaluates safety risk in terms of nature and severity of probable conflicts during overtaking maneuvers on a bi-directional undivided two-lane highway in a heterogeneous traffic environment of a low-income country. Nature and severity of probable conflicts were defined with the application of surrogate safety proximity indicators in real-world naturalis

Post-traumatic hypoxia exacerbates neurological deficit, neuroinflammation and cerebral metabolism in rats with diffuse traumatic brain injury.

BACKGROUND: The combination of diffuse brain injury with a hypoxic insult is associated with poor outcomes in patients with traumatic brain injury. In this study, we investigated the impact of post-traumatic hypoxia in amplifying secondary brain damage using a rat model of diffuse traumatic axonal injury (TAI). Rats were examined for behavioral and sensorimotor deficits, increased brain production of inflammatory cytokines, formation of cerebral edema, changes in brain metabolism and enlargement of the lateral ventricles. METHODS: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to diffuse TAI u

Submodality-selective hyperalgesia adjacent to partially injured sciatic nerve in the rat is dependent on capsaicin-sensitive afferent fibers and independent of collateral sprouting or a dorsal root reflex.

We studied submodality dependence of sensory changes produced by unilateral ligation of the sciatic or the saphenous nerve in the rat. We focused especially on sensory changes in the skin area adjacent to the innervation area of the injured nerve. Moreover, we examined the roles of capsaicin-sensitive nociceptive fibers, collateral sprouting and a dorsal root reflex in sensory changes observed behaviorally. Assessment of sensory changes was performed by a pattern of behavioral tests: hot-plate test and hindlimb withdrawal responses induced by radiant heat, hot-water bath, innocuous mechanical

Diagnosis of Schizophrenia and Its Subtypes Using MRI and Machine Learning.

PURPOSE: The neurobiological heterogeneity present in schizophrenia remains poorly understood. This likely contributes to the limited success of existing treatments and the observed variability in treatment responses. Our objective was to employ magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms to improve the classification of schizophrenia and its subtypes. METHOD: We utilized a public dataset provided by the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Consortium for Neuropsychiatric Research, containing structural MRI and resting-state fMRI (rsfMRI) data. We integrated

Potential value of Interleukin-6 as a diagnostic biomarker in human MDD and the antidepressant effect of its receptor antagonist tocilizumab in lipopolysaccharide-challenged rats.

Depression is a common mental disease with disastrous effect on the health and wealth globally. Focusing on the role for inflammation and immune activation in the pathogenesis of depression, many tries have been taken into effect targeting at the blockage of inflammatory cytokines, among which interleukin- 6 (IL-6) and its receptor antagonist tocilizumab attracts more attention, with inconsistent findings. Moderate to severe depressive disorder (MSDD) patients were enrolled and the serum concentrations of IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) measured, their correlation with the Hamilton De

Development and Validation of a Multidimensional Nursing Empowerment Scale (NES).

BACKGROUND: Empowerment in nurses is a multidimensional construct that has favorable results for both the patient and the employee and is emphasized in order to provide high-quality healthcare. For this concept to be translated into practice, measurement tools developed in this field are of critical importance. Although several validated instruments assess structural, psychological, or behavioral empowerment separately, each having been validated independently, using distinct samples, scoring frameworks, and item structures, no instrument evaluating all three dimensions simultaneously within a

The impact of the multicomponent "Healthy and Vital" 3-month lifestyle intervention in health professionals: a single group pre-(multiple) post-study.

BACKGROUND: Working in healthcare often involves stressful situations and a high workload, and many healthcare workers experience burnout complaints or suffer from mental or physical problems. This also affects the overall quality of health care. Many previous workplace interventions focused on knowledge exchange instead of other health cognitions, and were not particularly effective. Multicomponent lifestyle interventions may offer the potential in improving lifestyle and well-being of healthcare professionals. This study aims to evaluate the impact of a multicomponent lifestyle intervention

Videoconference-based imagery rescripting for persistent stressor-related intrusive memories in adults with adjustment disorder or major depressive disorder: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Intrusive memories are increasingly recognized as a transdiagnostic mechanism underlying persistent distress across stress-related disorders. Although persistent adjustment disorder (AD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) are classified as distinct diagnoses, both are frequently associated with distressing intrusive memories. Imagery rescripting (ImRs) is an effective cognitive-behavioral technique targeting intrusive memories, but its efficacy via videoconference delivery remains unclear. AIMS: This randomized controlled trial evaluated the efficacy and feasibility of videoconfe

Comparing continuum and direct fiber models of soft tissues. An ocular biomechanics example reveals that continuum models may artificially disrupt the strains at both the tissue and fiber levels.

Collagen fibers are the main load-bearing component of soft tissues but difficult to incorporate into models. Whilst simplified homogenization models suffice for some applications, a thorough mechanistic understanding requires accurate prediction of fiber behavior, including both detailed fiber-level strains and long-distance transmission. Our goal was to compare the performance of a continuum model of the optic nerve head (ONH) built using conventional techniques with a fiber model we recently introduced which explicitly incorporates the complex 3D organization and interaction of collagen fib

Words count in psychotherapy: Differentiating language characteristics of cognitive behavioral therapy and focal psychodynamic therapy for anorexia nervosa.

It is generally assumed that psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) differ in terms of applied techniques and processes. To date, however, little is known about whether and how such differences can actually be observed at a basic linguistic level and in what the two treatment approaches differ most strongly (i.e., how psychodynamic and CBT therapists differ in what they actually say word-by-word in therapy sessions). Building on theoretical models and previous research that used observer ratings, we formulated specific hypotheses regarding which word categories psychodyna

Biopolymeric films as delivery vehicles for controlled release of hydrocortisone: Promising devices to treat chronic skin diseases.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease with nasty effects on the psychosocial wellbeing of patients. Overall, glucocorticoids, such as hydrocortisone (HC), are the primary pharmacologic drugs used to treat AD and its symptoms. However, the long-term treatment with HC is often accompanied by severe adverse effects. So, this study reports the encapsulation of HC in polymeric films based on gelatin (Gel) and gelatin/starch (Gel/St) and investigates their potential to treat and attenuate 2,4-Dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD-like symptoms in BALB/c mice mo

Low-Field Magnetic Stimulation Restores Cognitive and Motor Functions in the Mouse Model of Repeated Traumatic Brain Injury: Role of Cellular Prion Protein.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI)/concussion is a growing epidemic throughout the world. Memory and neurobehavioral dysfunctions are among the sequelae of TBI. Dislodgement of cellular prion protein (PrPc) and disruption of circadian rhythm have been linked to TBI. Low-field magnetic stimulation (LFMS) is a new noninvasive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) technique that generates diffused and low-intensity magnetic stimulation to deep cortical and subcortical areas. The role of LFMS on PrPc, proteins related to the circadian rhythm, and behavior alterations in a repeated TBI mous

MicroRNA expression, targeting, release dynamics and early-warning biomarkers in acute cardiotoxicity induced by triptolide in rats.

Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. F. is a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, and psoriasis in China. However, its main active substance, triptolide, has toxic effects on the heart, liver, and kidneys, which limit its clinical application. Therefore, determining the mechanism of cardiotoxicity in triptolide and identifying effective early-warning biomarkers is beneficial for preventing irreversible myocardial injury. We observed changes in microRNAs and aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) as potential biomarkers in triptolide-induced acute card

[BEHAVIORAL AND FUNCTIONAL VESTIBULAR DISTURBANCES AFTER SPACE FLIGHT. 2. FISHES, AMPHIBIANS AND BIRDS].

The review contains data on functional shifts in fishes, amphibians and birds caused by changes in the otolith system operation after stay under weightlessness conditions. These data are of theoretical and practical significance and are important to resolve some fundamental problems of vestibulogy. The analysis of the results of space experiments has shown that weightlessness conditions do not exert a substantial impact on formation and functional state of the otolith system in embryonic fishes, amphibians and birds developed during space flight. Weightlessness conditions do pot inhibit embryo
