BACKGROUND: Although some features of dehiscent sigmoid plates as a cause of pulsatile tinnitus (PT) have been reported, detailed imaging findings have not been evaluated.
PURPOSE: To retrospectively evaluate the computed tomography (CT) features of dehiscent sigmoid plates associated with PT.

Plates and screws are effective for rigid internal fixation of bone fractures and osteotomies in the midface, orbit, and cranium. We describe our experience with the Luhr Micro System. This is the newest generation of Luhr Systems and is the smallest system available for rigid internal fixation. The self-tapping screws are 0.8 mm in diameter, with lengths of 2-8 mm. A 13-year-old girl presented to the clinic with a midshaft refracture of both forearm bones adjacent to the site of a prior forearm fracture that had been treated with plating. She was treated with hardware removal and placement of elastic intramedullary nails. Flexible intramedullary nailing can be successful for a skeletally mature adolescent in treatment of refracture surrounding plate fixation of a midshaft forearm fracture. This technique allows for additional protection of the entire length of the affected bones, while avoiding the extensive dissection needed for extended plating.

In different growth regions of the long bones of normal rabbits the cell production in the growth plates were calculated from values of longitudinal bone growth determined with oxytetracycline and values of the degenerative cell size. The cell production was found to decrease similarly with increasing age for all growth regions. The rate of cell production for the various growth plates differed.
