This report concerns a boy with congenital rubella virus infection. The diagnosis was confirmed by virus isolation, demonstration of rubella-specific serum IgM and by persistence of serum antibody at the age of 9 months. A method for purification of low molecular weight IgM (LMW IgM) which utilized salt precipitation, gel filtration, and insoluble immunoadsorbents is described. It was postulated that the anemia commonly seen in mammalian trypanosomiasis, and specifically in Trypanosoma congolense-infected calves, was of immunological origin. Eighteen patients with agnogenic myeloid metaplasia with myelofibrosis were studied for clinical and laboratory evidence of immunologic dysfunction. Investigations were carried out on caprine brucellosis in a costal area in Egypt. A total number of 577 Baladi Does was examined for Brucella infection using different serological tests. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus was isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid of a 6-year-old male who had clinically diagnosed aseptic meningitis and subsequently died. Several standard serologic tests that use polyclonal antibody and indirect immunofluorescence and hemagglutination inhibition tests that use monoclonal antibody provided evidence that the isolate was an antigenic subtype of prototype North American EEE virus. We believe that this is the first evidence of an antigenic subtype of EEE virus.
