Mapping biology in space: from spatial transcriptomics platforms to analytical tools and databases.

Spatial transcriptomics (ST) has become a key technology for interrogating gene expression within spatial context, providing spatially resolved insights into tissue architecture and microenvironmental organization. Rapid advances in experimental platforms and analytical methods, however, have resulted in challenges for technology selection, methodological comparison, and data interpretation. In this review, we present a systematic summary of 594 ST analysis tools spanning 77 ST technologies (as of September 2025). We outline the complete analytical workflow and discuss major analytical tasks,

Quantum Chemical Insights into Antibiotic Structure-Activity Relationships and Mechanisms of Action: A Review.

This review examines recent quantum chemical methodologies applied to investigating antibiotic structure and mechanisms of action. The discussion is organised into three sections: (1) enzymatic hydrolysis of the β-lactam ring, (2) interactions of antibiotics with ribosomal subunits and enzyme active sites, and (3) complex formation with metal ions. Each section evaluates how quantum chemical approaches, particularly density functional theory (DFT) and hybrid QM/MM techniques, model molecular processes relevant to antibiotic function, including transition states, electron density analyses, and

[Research advances in soil microbial carbon use efficiency in response to climate change].

Soil microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE), defined as the proportion of assimilated carbon allocated to microbial growth versus maintenance, is a key parameter regulating terrestrial soil organic carbon (SOC) storage. The response of CUE to climate change and its feedbacks profoundly affect global carbon cycle and soil carbon sequestration. At present, there are substantial uncertainties regarding the mechanisms underlying the responses of CUE to climate change and the ecological consequences. We synthesized research progress on soil microbial CUE over the past 20 years. First, we clarified t

Population specificity in mandibular sexual dimorphism: validation and development of forensic models for application in the contemporary Malaysian population.

INTRODUCTION: Sex estimation is a critical part of the forensic anthropological assessment. The mandible, due to its robust nature and sexually dimorphic traits, is often a alternative region for sex estimation, particularly in cases where other skeletal are incomplete or absent. Population-specific studies are necessary to refine and enhance the accuracy of forensic methodologies. This study, therefore, aims to quantify mandibular sexual dimorphism and explore population variances, validate existing discriminant functions, and develop novel models for sex estimation specific to the Malaysian

Integrating Transcriptomics and Metabolomics for Clinical Disease Detection: A Critical Review of Emerging Diagnostic Methodologies.

Transcriptomics and metabolomics occupy mechanistically complementary positions in the molecular hierarchy of disease: gene expression characterizes upstream regulatory dysregulation, while metabolomics captures the downstream biochemical consequence at the functional endpoint of that cascade. Applied alone, each yields only a partial view of complex, multifactorial disease. This critical review evaluates the workflows, platforms and computational strategies of both disciplines, appraising their diagnostic utility, translational limitations and clinical laboratory adaptability. We examine integ

Design of Patient-Specific Customized 3D Bone Grafts for Unilateral Alveolar Cleft Repair.

Alveolar cleft, affecting almost 75% of cleft lip and palate patients, disrupts dental arch continuity and maxillofacial symmetry. Although autogenous iliac crest grafting remains the gold standard, donor-site morbidity and limited graft source drive demand for alternatives, including 3-dimensional printed patient-specific solutions. This study implemented a methodology for designing of 3-dimensional patient-specific bone graft for alveolar cleft repair using computed tomography data. On the basis of the boundaries defined by previous studies, we fulfilled the clinical functional need for alve

A Transfer Learning Approach for Clinical Detection Support of Monkeypox Skin Lesions.

Monkeypox (MPX) is a disease caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV). It is a contagious disease and has associated symptoms of skin lesions, rashes, fever, and respiratory distress lymph swelling along with numerous neurological distresses. This can be a deadly disease, and the latest outbreak of it has shown its spread to Europe, Australia, the United States, and Africa. Typically, diagnosis of MPX is performed through PCR, by taking a sample of the skin lesion. This procedure is risky for medical staff, as during sample collection, transmission and testing, they can be exposed to MPXV, and this in
