Recent advances in convex probe endobronchial ultrasound: a narrative review.

Convex probe endobronchial ultrasound (CP-EBUS) has been widely used in the lymph node staging and restaging of lung tumors and the diagnosis of mediastinal diseases. Recent years have seen continuous progress in this technology. For diagnosis, elastography technology can preliminarily distinguish between benign and malignant lesions, so that reduce the number of punctures. CP-EBUS can also be used as an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to guide needle aspirations of liver lesions, retroperitoneal lymph nodes and left adrenal gland (LAG) lesions sometimes. Some advances help diagnosing more accurat

The eye sees what the mind knows: Eye tracking and artificial intelligence to assess surgical resident level of expertise.

BACKGROUND: Surgical education continues to strive to move beyond traditional time-based competency metrics. As gaze behaviors can reflect underlying cognitive strategies, eye-tracking technology may provide insight into individual differences. Hence, we sought to characterize gaze-based phenotypes in surgical learners to examine their relationship with training level. METHODS: We conducted an eye-tracking study involving general surgery residents from postgraduate year 1 through postgraduate year 5 using screen-based eye trackers. Gaze patterns were collected on 2 30-second video clips of op

[Historical sketch of modern pharmaceutical science and technology (Part 3). From the second half of the 19th century to World War II].

The history of modern pharmaceutical science and technology, from the second half of the 19th century to the end of World War II, is divided into nine sections for the purpose of discussion. 1. The European medical and pharmaceutical science and technology at the end of the 19th century is reviewed. Pharmacology, bacteriology and biochemistry were built in this period. 2. The Meiji Government accepted Western medicine and medical law and regulations in 1883. Consequently, the Japanese physician changed from Eastern (Kanpooi) to Western (Seiyooi). 3. Modern scientific and engineering education

"I am not shy anymore": A qualitative study of the role of an interactive mHealth intervention on sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of South African adolescents with perinatal HIV.

BACKGROUND: South Africa has one of the highest burdens of adolescents with perinatally-acquired HIV (APHIV) in the world. APHIV in South Africa have limited access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and services specific to their HIV status. When lacking comprehensive SRH education, APHIV are prone to sexual risk behaviors that can lead to unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV transmission. The use of mHealth interventions has been shown to deliver information, foster social support, and improve decision-making skills. In this study, we evaluate how an

Optimizing antepartum admission care: Assessing the influence of QR code-based patient education on postpartum contraception rates.

INTRODUCTION: With the uncertain landscape of abortion laws across the United States, the importance of postpartum contraception has increased, particularly for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies requiring antepartum hospitalization. Conversations about contraception are often overshadowed by the myriad of other discussions related to high-risk pregnancies. This is especially significant for birthing persons of color, given the history of systemic racism and coercion related to permanent sterilization. This quality improvement project aimed to address these issues by implementing a novel

Why glycemic control remains suboptimal in type 1 diabetes in the era of advanced technologies?

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) remains associated with suboptimal glycemic control in a substantial proportion of individuals despite major advances in insulin formulations and technological systems. This apparent paradox highlights that glucose control in T1D is not determined by technology alone, but rather emerges from the interaction of multiple biological, therapeutic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors. In this structured narrative review, we examine the main determinants that continue to limit optimal control in real-world practice. Pathophysiological barriers include residual or absolute insu
