BACKGROUND: The occurrence of erythema multiforme (EM)-like lesions in association with lupus erythematosus (LE) is often referred to as "Rowell syndrome" (RS). However, the existence of RS, or at least its nosographic independence from LE, is questioned. The association of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) with LE is also controversial.

PURPOSE: This nonrandomized multicenter phase II study was performed to evaluate the activity and safety of Ecteinascidin (ET-743) administered at a dose of 1.5 mg/m(2) as a 24-hour continuous infusion every 3 weeks in patients with pretreated advanced soft tissue sarcoma.

Erythema multiforme major (EMM) is an acute, self-limited mucocutaneous disease characterized by the abrupt onset of symmetrical fixed red papules evolving to target lesions. It is triggered mainly by infections, such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Mycoplasma pneumoniae, or drugs. In Germany Fuchs syndrome is used to describe a variant of erythema multiforme majus which mainly involves the mucosal surfaces. OBJECTIVE: To search for an effective therapy for cold erythema multiforme in ham.
METHODS: One hundred and eighty cases with cold erythema multiforme in ham were randomly divided into a Santong group (n=90) and a western medicine group (n=90). The Santong group was treated by He's Santong needling methods and Huantiao (GB 30), Fengshi (GB 31), Zusanli (ST 36), etc. were selected. Erythema multiforme and Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis are separate diseases. Recent evidence suggests that they have different etiologies and require different treatments. This article provides an overview of the two conditions with emphasis on the differences between them. An outline of the diagnosis and management of the diseases is included.

A case of erythema multiforme-like reaction, following therapy with sulfadimethoxynum is reported in a 19-year-old male patient. Histological examination demonstrated a subepidermal bulla and direct immunofluorescence revealed linear deposition of IgA at the dermoepidermal junction. These observations illustrate that linear IgA bullous dermatosis can mimic the clinical features of erythema multiforme and suggest the possibility of drug-induced pathogenesis.

In 15 months we encountered eight patients with intracranial tumors who developed erythema multiforme (EM) or erythema multiforme bullosa (Stevens-Johnson syndrome). All occurred shortly after use of phenytoin (DPH) and brain radiation therapy (WBRT). A localized skin reaction occurred within 4 weeks following IV administration of mitomycin C and 5-FU. Erythematous papules appeared proximal to the forearm site used for drug administration that histologically resembled an erythema multiforme-like drug reaction.
