Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic autoimmune disease that attacks various organ systems with a variety of clinical implications, ranging from mild skin and mucosal manifestations to severe central nervous system manifestations and death. Cases of SLE have been documented nearly two centuries ago when scholars used the terms 'erythema centrifugum' and 'seborrhea congestiva' to describe the discoid skin lesions and the butterfly or malar rash in SLE. Since then, knowledge about this disease has developed rapidly, especially knowledge related to the underlying pathogenesis of SLE.

DRESS syndrome is a multisystem disorder that appears in the context of an adverse drug reaction, characterized by fever, rash and peripheral eosinophilia with involvement of other organs such as the liver. The typical liver involvement is acute toxic hepatitis (DILI), showing improvement and a tendency to resolution when corticotherapy is started. We must not forget this manifestation in the clinical context of a DRESS syndrome.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a heterogeneous genodermatoses, has a variable clinical spectrum ranging from mild freckling and photosensitivity to severe skeletal and neurological abnormalities and cutaneous malignancies. Herein, we present the case of a 4-year-old boy with XP group G who presented with a pellagroid rash.

Dupilumab is a therapeutic antibody targeting IL-4 and IL-13 receptor subunit alpha used for the treatment of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). Cases of psoriasis-like reactions induced under dupilumab treatment (dupilumab-induced psoriatic eruption [DI-Pso]) for AD were recently reported. To understand the pathogenesis of DI-Pso, we performed gene expression profiling studies on skin biopsies of DI-Pso (n = 7) compared with those of plaque psoriasis, AD, and healthy controls (n = 4 each). Differential gene expression was performed using enrichment and Gene Ontology analysis. Gene expressi

BACKGROUND: Delays in the diagnosis and treatment of dermatological conditions in minorities are a well-documented health disparity. We aimed to determine if there was a delay in detection and treatment initiation for dermatomyositis (DM) and amyopathic dermatomyositis (ADM) in patients of different skin tones.
METHODS: Patients from Montefiore Medical Center who met the criteria for DM and ADM were included in this cohort study. Records were reviewed for date of first documented rash, creatine kinase levels, muscle weakness complaints, and date of first steroid or disease-modifying antirheum

BACKGROUND: Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis (NEH) is a benign neutrophilic dermatosis not well recognized beyond an association with malignancy. Although the disease is commonly reported in adults with malignancy, this association is uncommon in children. The diagnosis of NEH is predominantly based on histologic findings to exclude alternative diagnoses for adults, but biopsy is not usually required for children.
METHODS: A retrospective study was performed of adult and pediatric patients diagnosed with NEH at three Mayo Clinic sites from January 1, 1992, to January 1, 2022. The aim of this

OBJECTIVES: The EPIWATCH artificial intelligence (AI) system scans open-source data using automated technology and can be used to detect early warnings of infectious disease outbreaks. In May 2022, a multicountry outbreak of Mpox in non-endemic countries was confirmed by the World Health Organization. This study aimed to identify signals of fever and rash-like illness using EPIWATCH and, if detected, determine if they represented potential Mpox outbreaks.
STUDY DESIGN: The EPIWATCH AI system was used to detect global signals for syndromes of rash and fever that may have represented a missed d

Cutaneous lesions of secondary syphilis are highly infectious and can mimic many skin disorders, making the diagnosis more difficult. They typically present as generalized, nonpruritic erythematous-to-copper-colored macules and papules, characteristically involving palms and soles. In 80% of patients the rash develops insidiously. However, rare forms of secondary syphilis present as rapidly progressive papulopustular lesions. These forms of syphilis are usually associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection and immunosuppression. We report a case of secondary syphilis presenting with a

Mycoplasma pneumoniae induced rash and mucositis (MIRM) is a relatively newly identified clinical entity which is characterized by mucocutaneous manifestations in the setting of Mycoplasma infection. Though a clinically distinct disease, MIRM exists on a diagnostic continuum with entities including erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and the recently described reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME). In this systematic review, we discuss published findings on the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of MIRM, with an e

A 35-year-old man presented to the ED with a 7-day history of fever, asthenia, and cough. He had previously received a 3-day course of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid (1 g tid po) and then ceftriaxone (1 g IM once per day) prescribed by his general practitioner with no substantial benefit. He was an active smoker (11.2 pack/y), without known allergy-related syndromes and any important reports in his medical history.

BACKGROUND: Pregabalin is used in the treatment of neuropathic pain of various etiologies and as an adjuvant in epilepsy. Blockade of the α2δ subunit of L and N-type Ca-channels is its main mechanism of neurotropic action. Compared to other antiepileptics like phenytoin, valproate and lamotrigine, and other neuropathic pain medications such as amitriptyline and duloxetine, pregabalin has a relatively favorable safety profile and hence is a drug of choice for many geriatricians.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here we describe a case of maculopapular rash induced by pregabalin in an older man, which resolv

BACKGROUND: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is a severe adverse drug reaction generally accompanied by skin manifestations as the first and most frequent symptoms. However, skin manifestations and associated clinical features of DRESS have not been fully explored and evaluated.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to describe the skin manifestations of DRESS in detail and analyse their association with demographic characteristics and extra-cutaneous clinical features.
METHODS: We conducted this retrospective study on patients with DRESS diagnosed between September 2009
