Acromioclavicular joint dislocation with intact coracoclavicular ligaments accompanied by fracture of the coracoid process is a rare injury. The patients are treated with conservative and/or surgical methods. A 30-year-old male patient developed type 3 acromioclavicular dislocation and coracoid process fracture due to a fall in the right shoulder. Both injuries were treated surgically. Following open reduction, the acromioclavicular joint was fixed with a Knowles pin, and the coracoid process was fixed with a 4.0-mm malleolar screw. Active-assisted rehabilitation of the shoulder was initiated

INTRODUCTION: A transscaphoid and transtriquetral perilunate fracture dislocation is fairly rare among the known cases of perilunate fracture dislocations, and the details of the initial treatment and outcome of this injury have never been reported.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 21-year-old, right-handed man presented with fractures at the proximal third of the scaphoid and at the mid-body of the triquetrum with an associated dorsal perilunate dislocation after a fall onto his outstretched hand. Under general anesthesia, closed reduction was attempted with 3 kg of traction applied by means of fing…

We report the case of an irreparable fracture - dislocation of the ulnar head with a concomitant fracture of the radius (Galeazzi lesion), treated by implantation of a Herbert Ulnar Head Prosthesis((R)). A stable distal radio-ulnar joint was achieved by careful dissection of a posterior soft tissue flap and accurate reduction of the radius.

A case of traumatic fracture-dislocation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint is reported. This type of injury is extremely rare. The injury was associated with complete disruption of the following anatomic structures: conjoined tendon of abductor hallucis and medial head of flexor hallucis brevis, plantar plate, and the intersesamoid ligament. Additionally, there was a transverse fracture of the tibial sesamoid. Excision of the fractured tibial sesamoid trapped within the joint and primary repair was achieved through a medial incisional approach. A complete description of the repair and rat

Double dislocations of finger joints are rare. An unusual case of a simultaneous Bennett's fracture/dislocation ofthe carpometacarpal joint and a dorsal dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the same thumb, and the management of this injury are reported. The patient had an excellent functional result.

Fracture-dislocations of the thoracic spine without spinal cord injury are very rare. We report a case of a complete T6-7 fracture-dislocation without neurologic deficit in a 61-year-old male Taiwanese. Complicating neurological deterioration on the fifth post-injury day during a nonoperative treatment with a Gardner-Wells skull tong and pelvic belt traction on a Stryker frame was noted. Emergent open reduction and posterior instrumentation with dual Harrington rods of T3 to T9 was performed. At 2-year follow-up examination, a good reduction was maintained and the patient had resumed full acti

An unusual type of traumatic comminuted fracture/dislocation of C1 and C2 is presented. The fracture differs significantly from previously described types of C1-2 complex fracture. Anatomically contoured titanium loops were used for stabilization of the occipitocervical junction. To the best of the author's knowledge this is the first description of comminuted fracture/dislocation of the bodies and laminae of C1 and C2 in the English literature.

Fourteen cases of fracture-dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) were treated using extension-block Kirschner (K)-wire after closed or open reduction of the dislocation. The postoperative ROM of the PIPJ in the 14 patients averaged 94.4 degrees. A full ROM of the PIPJ was regained in 10 cases. This wire provides an alternative method to the use of extension block splintage in the management of such injuries.

Two categories of persistent posttraumatic neurologic deficits of the spinal cord without evidence of a spinal fracture or dislocation have been described previously. Spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (SCI-WORA) is seen in children. In the elderly, hyperextension injuries causing neurologic deficits without bony injury have also been described. The purpose of this report is to review mechanisms by which transient neurologic deficits occur in the absence of bony disruption. The authors describe four cases in which transient neurologic deficits occurred after blunt trauma to th

The authors have studied a particular type of traumatic lesion of the elbow which combines a fracture of the olecranon with a dislocation of both bones of the forearm, the radius and ulna remaining normally aligned to one another. The displacement was either forward (4 cases) or backward (6 cases). In some cases a partial fracture of the radial head or the lateral condyle of the humerus was also present and resulted in considerable instability. Internal fixation should always be tried but was not always possible. In one case a pedicle transplant of the medial epicondyle was made to restore a f

An unusual mechanism of injury for a central acetabular fracture-dislocation is reported in a patient with chronic renal insufficiency. The combination of renal osteodystrophy and an epileptic seizure resulted in such an injury as a complication of renal dialysis. Skeletal traction and a prolonged period of non-weight bearing produced a satisfactory result.

Severe fracture/dislocation of the thoracic (T) or lumbar (L) spine is usually associated with complete neurological dysfunction below the level of injury. Three cases of severe spinal fracture/dislocation are presented in this report. Two of these patients suffered only partial neurological deficit, which improved after open reduction, internal fixation, and bone fusion. Severe fracture/dislocation of the T or L spine may be quite obvious on lateral roentgenograms. Occasionally, however, the fracture site may be obscured by the overlying shoulders, hips, or soft tissues. If no lateral displac
