The authors present the dynamics of the clinico-roentgenologic and biomechanical results of the treatment of 57 patients with late and inveterate dislocation fractures of the bones of the foot using the method of distraction. The analysis of the economic damage has demonstrated that a continuous disturbance in the working ability of the patients with this pathology causes an economic damage to the state averaging 7043.3 +/- 259.2 rubles. Fractures of the fourth carpal bone were diagnosed in 5 horses; 3 fractures were associated with fracture of the intermediate carpal bone. The diagnosis was delayed in all 5 horses, apparently because of the moderate nature of the clinical signs. Open surgical reduction with lag screw type fixation was used in all horses. In this study of fractures of the shaft of the tibia and femur in children, the growth rate of these long bones after injury was assessed by serial radiographical measurements of bone length, accurate to the nearest millimetre. Within three months of injury the rate of growth was at its maximum and was 38 per cent in excess of normal. In this review of 50 patients with fracture of the temporal bone, 11 patients had ipsilateral facial paralysis, three of immediate and eight of delayed onset. An analysis of the treatment of 203 patients with open diaphysial fractures of the long tubular bones, resulting from motor-road accidents has been carried out. Late results have been studied in 134 cases (66%) with follow-up ranging from 1 to 10 years. 69% of them have completely restored their working capacity with the possibility to return to their previous work.
