Septorhinoplasty by disarticulation is an esthetic and functional solution for naturally occuring nasal pyramid dysmorphia, releasing the anatomic traces of growth-related stresses. Disarticulating the septolateral cartilage from its bony framework via a closed approach to the septal pocket is associated to Rethi's external approach in order to disarticulate the fibrocartilaginous nasal dorsum, while conserving its integrity, under the bony dorsum. INTRODUCTION: Fronto-metaphyseal dysplasia (FMD), also called Gorlin-Cohen syndrome, is a rare syndrome initially described in 1969 by Gorlin and Cohen. Patients present skeletal dysplasia, craniofacial malformations and digit abnormalities. Craniofacial phenotype of FMD is characterized by supraorbital hyperostosis, hypertelorism, down-slanting palpebral fissures, broad nasal bridge and micrognathia. Here, we report the first adult case of craniofacial reconstruction with frontal cranioplasty in a patient with FMD.

A 59-yr-old man with chronic renal failure was admitted for evaluation of generalized skeletal pain and frontal bone mass, which was lytic on radiography. Bone scintigraphy demonstrated several foci of moderately increased uptake, without involvement of the skull mass. Radiographs of these lesions were compatible with brown tumors. Dense particles of hydroxyapatite (HAP) were consolidated in the frontal sinus of dogs, and bone formation with time was observed in undecalcified ground sections using Cole's HE stain. In the HAP mass on the experimental side, a small amount of newly generated bone was seen around the inner wall of the sinus after 3 months. Even after 12 months, bone formation was still limited to the surrounding region and did not extend to the central region of the sinus. Respiratory diseases have beset humanity from the earliest times. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of respiratory diseases in the inhabitants of a large medieval city. We analyzed 110 skeletons, coming from 12 to 17th century of individuals of either gender. In order to assess pneumatisation of paranasal sinuses and nasal septum curvature, radiographs were performed in the PA projection. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: An 83-year-old woman presented with a bony, hard, immobile bulge in her left forehead. Osteomas are benign osteogenic tumors that are seen in the facial bones, but uncommonly in the mandible. In the facial bones, both central and peripheral osteomas have been described. Peripheral osteomas have been described to occur in the frontal, ethmoid, and maxillary sinuses but are not common in jawbones. When in the mandible, they are usually found over the angle and inferior border of the mandible. We report on a solitary peripheral osteoma located unusually in the sigmoid notch of the left mandible causing facial asymmetry.

En coup de sabre is a rare subtype of linear scleroderma that characteristically affects the skin, underlying muscle, and bone of the frontoparietal region of the face and scalp. It typically presents in the first two decades of life, and may be associated with focal neurological deficits. We present a case of late-onset en coup de sabre of the frontal bone where the diagnosis was further complicated by a history of breast cancer, prior trauma to the region, and use of topical medication.

A 62-year-old woman presented with left frontotemporal pain, scalp tenderness and raised levels of inflammatory markers. Temporal arteritis was considered likely, and symptoms resolved with prednisone therapy. This delayed diagnostic bone biopsy until a soft tissue abscess formed, and Pott's puffy tumour associated with Prevotella osteomyelitis of the frontal bone was diagnosed. This case highlights the value of early histopathological examination, and is a reminder of a condition seen frequently in the pre-antibiotic era.

Among the major disorders of the lower eyelid due to peripheral facial paralysis are lagophthalmos, eyelid ptosis and ectropion, with or without epiphora. There are several surgical techniques for correcting ectropion and lower eyelid ptosis. This article describes a modification of the classic technique of suspension using tendons, which consists of anchoring the tendon to the frontal apophysis of the maxillary bone and external orbital bone with suture screw anchors. Using the described technique, we obtained significant improvement of epiphora.

OBJECTIVE: To make 3-D reconstruction of frontal recess by high speed spiral CT, which can be helpful to nasal endoscopic frontal sinus operation.
METHOD: Fifty-one cases (102 laterals) of frontal recess 3-D reconstruction by 16 line high speed spiral CT were enrolled in the research, which included 58 laterals with chronic frontal sinusitis and 44 laterals of normal nasal sinus. The structure of frontal recess, the agger nasi and the adhere style of uncinate process were recognized. The parameter of frontal recess was measured. Finally the data of two groups were compared and analyzed.

Two cases from practical forensic medical expert evaluation are presented, connected with injuries inflicted by point-blank shots from gas pistols of 8 and 9 mm caliber. These two examples demonstrate the difficulties in expert evaluation, which are explained by the absence of scientifically-based methodology. The authors emphasize the necessity of comprehensive studies in this field to develop methods for the differential diagnosis of injuries inflicted by gas weapons and those inflicted by blank cartridge gunshots.

This report presents a case of suspected Parkinson disease in a 76-year-old woman with a history of slurred speech, general weakness, unstable gait, and bradykinesia for months. A 99m Tc-TRODAT-1 SPECT scan revealed a symmetrically decreased bilateral nigrostriatal system, including bilateral putamen and caudate nuclei. Encephaloceles are uncommon in western countries and most cases are located in the occipital bone. Frontal encephaloceles may involve the ethmoid bone, nasal bones and/or the orbits.
