The effect of human granulocyte colony stimulating factor (hG-CSF) was investigated on the proliferation of choriocarcinoma cells in vitro. No growth-stimulating effect was observed. Then, 22 patients with invasive mole and 9 patients with choriocarcinoma who received combination chemotherapy were treated with hG-CSF when white blood cell counts decreased below 2,000/mm3. The duration of neutropenia was reduced significantly by 3-4 days with the use of hG-CSF. No side effects were observed. Three rare cases of tumours of the cervix are reported: embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, granulocyte sarcoma and lymphoma. We have successfully treated 3 cases of granulocytopenia, using Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) after AC bypass surgery. All cases were male, aged 68, 75 & 54 years old, and underwent AC bypass surgery without transfusion except in case 1. We report two patients with Felty's syndrome and chronic skin ulcers treated successfully with recombinant granulocyte colony stimulating factor (GCSF). In both cases granulocytes returned to the normal range within days of starting treatment, and their cutaneous ulcers improved. In one patient granulocytes were maintained at normal levels with a regimen of GCSF 3 micrograms/kg twice weekly for 14 months.

Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) was administered to patients with bladder cancer, ureteral cancer and testicular cancer following chemotherapy. Chemotherapy included 23 courses of M-VAC (Methotrexate, Vinblastine, Adriamycin, Cisplatin) therapy to patients with bladder cancer or ureteral cancer and 10 courses of EP (Etoposide, Cisplatin) therapy to patients with testicular cancer. We report a 65-year-old patient who presented a rapid eruption of keratoses on sun-exposed areas and an explosive transformation into several squamous-cell carcinomas, occurring during the accelerated phase of a chronic granulocytic leukemia. Clinical findings resembled those usually described in xeroderma pigmentosum. The role of immunosuppression, chemotherapy and possible genetic predisposition is discussed.

We report a case history of a woman of 66 years of age who had a granulocytic sarcoma of the cervix which presented as metrorrhagia and which at first was thought to be an anaplastic cancer. The poor general state of the patient made it impossible to start any anti-leukaemic treatment and the patient died two months after the diagnosis was made. Our patient had stage IIIAI Hodgkin's disease with synchronous myelofibrosis and myeloid metaplasia. A slowly progressive myeloproliferative disease developed over 9 1/2 years and terminated in a painful osteolytic bone disease, spinal extradural granulocytic sarcoma and acute megakaryocytic leukemia. It is likely that this was a result of the myeloproliferative disease rather than a late complication from combination chemotherapy. Our case demonstrates the importance of a curative approach to Hodgkin's disease even in the face of a coexistent disease with a long or unknown natural history.
