[Relationship between regurgitant flow dynamics and cardiac physical in tricuspid regurgitation: a phono-, mechano- and Doppler echocardiographic study].

To evaluate the relationships between regurgitant flow dynamics of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and cardiac physical signs, and to clarify the role of atrial function on central venous flow, we investigated physical signs by cardiac auscultation and palpation of the liver. In addition, phonocardiography, jugular venous and hepatic pulse tracings and Doppler echocardiographic recordings were performed. The subjects, 109 patients with Doppler-detected TR, were categorized as an SR group of 42 with sinus rhythm, an Af group of 63 with atrial fibrillation and four with sinus arrest. Thirty-five pa

[A biochemical analysis of experimental chemonucleolysis].

We have studied the mechanical properties of enzyme-injected canine intervertebral discs by quasi-static compression tests, dynamic vibration tests and histology at 2 weeks (short-period group) and within 6 months (long-period group) after enzyme injection. The findings of each group were compared with those of normal discs as a control. The results were as follows; The quasi-static tests: In the short-period group, normalized stiffness of the discs was reduced significantly and the normalized creep rate was increased. The intradiscal pressures produced by external loading in short-period disc

Population aging and changing hospitalization risks in Germany: a decomposition of changes in inpatient cases, 2005-2021.

BACKGROUND: Inpatient care improves and maintains population health but requires a clear understanding of the drivers of inpatient care utilization. In Germany, inpatient cases increased from 16.5 to 19.4 million between 2005 and 2019 and dropped tremendously during the Covid-19 pandemic. We investigate how population aging and changing hospitalization risks in the German population contributed to the changes in inpatient case numbers remunerated according to the German Diagnosis-Related Groups (G-DRG) system between 2005 and 2021. METHODS: The analysis is based on more than 280 million cases

The role of conformational selection in the molecular recognition of the wild type and mutants XPA67-80 peptides by ERCC1.

Molecular recognition is a fundamental step in the coordination of biomolecular pathways. Understanding how recognition and binding occur between highly flexible protein domains is a complex task. The conformational selection theory provides an elegant rationalization of the recognition mechanism, especially valid in cases when unstructured protein regions are involved. The recognition of a poorly structured peptide, namely XPA67-80 , by its target receptor ERCC1, falls in this challenging study category. The microsecond molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, discussed in this work, show that th

Operative management of ipsilateral fractures of the hip and femur.

Thirteen patients with ipsilateral hip and femoral shaft fractures are discussed. In nine patients, the femoral shaft fracture was managed by a combination of dynamic compression plating with a medial cancellous bone graft and either multiple cancellous screws or a dynamic hip screw for the proximal fracture (Group I). Four patients had Ender pin fixation (Group II). In Group I, both fractures were united within 16 weeks in all patients, and at least 90% of normal hip and knee motion was regained. Nonunions developed in two of the four Group II patients. Immediate separate fixation of ipsilate

Compression-induced apoptosis of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts in an in vitro model of pulmonary fibrosis by alginate/gelatin scaffold.

Pulmonary fibrosis leads to increased mortality but is poorly understood. Fibrotic progression is associated with abnormal wound repair and an increase in myofibroblast cell populations. Here we investigate how the myofibroblast population is impacted by unique compression-induced apoptosis derived from mechanical strain characteristic of asthma. Using a mechanical device, both static and dynamic mechanical strains were applied to alginate/gelatin/CaCl2 scaffolds containing fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. As cell groups were stimulated with 30 % static strain for 12 h, fibroblast and myofibrob

Evaluation of hydrocephalic periventricular radiolucency by dynamic computed tomography and xenon-computed tomography.

OBJECTIVE: A common finding of computed tomography in a case of normal-pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is periventricular radiolucency (PVL). We analyzed PVL for patients with hydrocephalus, using dynamic computed tomographic and xenon-computed tomographic techniques to differentiate NPH from similar diseases. METHODS: Dynamic computed tomography was evaluated as a method of diagnosing NPH in 14 patients with computed tomographic findings of both PVL and ventricular dilatation. Of the 14 patients, varying degrees of clinical improvement after shunt surgery were observed in 10 (shunt-effective gr

Evaluation of autonomic dysfunction with dynamic pupillometry in non-obese young women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

PURPOSE: Polycystic ovary syndrome is frequently associated with autonomic nervous system dysfunction, even in the absence of obesity or overt metabolic abnormalities. Alterations in pupillary responses may reflect early autonomic involvement and serve as a potential tool for early diagnosis, risk stratification, and disease monitoring. This study aimed to investigate pupillary reflex parameters using dynamic pupillometry in newly diagnosed non-obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome and to compare the findings with those of healthy controls. METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional study

A dynamic nomogram model integrating serum phosphorus and longest diameter enhances diagnostic accuracy of 99mTc-MIBI imaging for parathyroid adenoma patients with elevated parathyroid hormone.

BACKGROUND: Parathyroid adenoma (PA) is the most common cause of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). 99mTc-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (99mTc-MIBI) imaging is widely applied in PA diagnosis and location. However, since the individual heterogeneity and adenoma function differences, the diagnostic efficacy of 99mTc-MIBI imaging is limited, which often leads to misdiagnosis and even mistreatment of PA. METHODS: In the present study, we established a novel dynamic nomogram model to assist the nuclear imaging diagnosis of PA. A total of 96 PA patients, with 65 cases in the positive group and 31 case
