Vaccination Capability Inventory of Community, Migrant, and Homeless Health Centers: A Survey Report.

CONTEXT: Federally funded Community, Migrant, and Homeless Health Centers provide health services to the most vulnerable communities in the United States. However, little is known about their capabilities and processes for providing vaccinations to adults. PROGRAM: We conducted the first national survey of health centers assessing their inventory, workflow, capacity for, and barriers to provision of routinely recommended adult vaccines. In addition, we asked health center leaders' perceptions regarding best practices and policy recommendations for adult vaccinations. IMPLEMENTATION: A survey

RadBERT-CL: Factually-Aware Contrastive Learning For Radiology Report Classification.

Radiology reports are unstructured and contain the imaging findings and corresponding diagnoses transcribed by radiologists which include clinical facts and negated and/or uncertain statements. Extracting pathologic findings and diagnoses from radiology reports is important for quality control, population health, and monitoring of disease progress. Existing works, primarily rely either on rule-based systems or transformer-based pre-trained model fine-tuning, but could not take the factual and uncertain information into consideration, and therefore generate false positive outputs. In this work,

Prioritizing the tuberculosis burden by the analytic hierarchy process for effective targeted intervention.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern in India, with an estimated 2.69 million cases annually. This study aimed to identify priority TB burden groups in Mysuru District using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to support targeted interventions. A retrospective cross-sectional analysis was conducted using 8,459 TB case records reported between 2017 and 2019. Urban areas accounted for most cases (64.8%), with Mysuru City alone contributing 36.5%. Integrating AHP with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a secondary surveillance approach was used to prioritize high-risk popul

Utilizing social determinants of health to identify most vulnerable neighborhoods-Latent class analysis and GIS map.

OBJECTIVES: Public Health officials are often challenged to effectively allocate limited resources. Social determinants of health (SDOH) may cluster in areas to cause unique profiles related to various adverse life events. The authors use the framework of unintended teen pregnancies to illustrate how to identify the most vulnerable neighborhoods. METHODS: This study used data from the U.S. American Community Survey, Princeton Eviction Lab, and Connecticut Office of Vital Records. Census tracts are small statistical subdivisions of a county. Latent class analysis (LCA) was employed to separate

Developing and testing a system alignment approach to address homelessness among black fathers in Atlanta, GA.

BACKGROUND: Homelessness is a profound public health crisis in the United States, elevating risks for chronic illness, mental health disorders, substance use, and family instability. Homelessness response systems remain structurally centered on maternal caregiving, routinely barring adult men, including fathers, from accessing family shelters. Functional Zero is a structural intervention that supports dynamic tracking of individuals through a by-name list and seeks to reduce the number of individuals experiencing homelessness to zero in a community. The purpose of this study was to assess Func

Learning health systems: Driving real-world impact in mental health and substance use disorder research.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is one of the largest single providers of health care in the U.S. VA supports an embedded research program that addresses VA clinical priorities in close partnership with operations leaders, which is a hallmark of a Learning Health System (LHS). Using the LHS framework, we describe current VA research initiatives in mental health and substance use disorders that rigorously evaluate national programs and policies designed to reduce the risk of suicide and opioid use disorder (data to knowledge); test i

Health care experiences of individuals accessing or undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the U.S.: a narrative review of qualitative studies.

BACKGROUND: In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an increasingly common method of assisted reproduction given the high rates of infertility in the United States (U.S.). However, despite growing utilization of IVF technologies, there is little known about the experiences of those accessing or undergoing IVF, particularly among adults in the U.S. The aims of this review are to (1) explore how economic, emotional and physical health, and interpersonal relationships impact and are impacted by accessing or undergoing IVF, and (2) understand the role of healthcare providers and the healthcare system. Towards harmonisation of entomological surveillance in the Mediterranean area.

BACKGROUND: The Mediterranean Basin is historically a hotspot for trade, transport, and migration. As a result, countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea share common public health threats. Among them are vector-borne diseases, and in particular, mosquito-borne viral diseases are prime candidates as (re)emerging diseases and are likely to spread across the area. Improving preparedness and response capacities to these threats at the regional level is therefore a major issue. The implementation of entomological surveillance is, in particular, of utmost importance. Guidance in designing entomol

Informal caregivers in Italy: the 'phantom zone' of welfare.

Medical progress and the consequent gradual ageing of the population increase the number of people in Europe who require continuous care, as they suffer from chronic diseases or senility. This demand is disproportionate if compared to the economic resources of health systems and is, therefore, heavily supported by the activity of the so-called "informal caregivers". With our article we propose to depict the current scenario in Italy, dwelling on the safeguards, to date, aimed at informal caregivers, which are insufficient to correct the criticalities associated with the burdensome assistance p

Digital health education needs for women with urinary incontinence in Kigali Rwanda, a phenomenological qualitative study.

Urinary incontinence (UI), an involuntary loss of urine, is a widespread pelvic floor disorder affecting 20-50% of women worldwide, with a 21% prevalence in Sub-Saharan Africa. Contributing factors include genetics, childbirth, and chronic conditions, leading to significant physical, social, and emotional challenges such as fear of leakage and isolation. Despite its impact, many affected women lack awareness of UI and available treatments, which include medication, surgery, and pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT). Knowledge gaps and misconceptions persist, hindering timely diagnosis and manage

The Complex Interaction Between Sleep-Related Information, Misinformation, and Sleep Health: Call for Comprehensive Research on Sleep Infodemiology and Infoveillance.

The complex interplay between sleep-related information-both accurate and misleading-and its impact on clinical public health is an emerging area of concern. Lack of awareness of the importance of sleep, and inadequate information related to sleep, combined with misinformation about sleep, disseminated through social media, nonexpert advice, commercial interests, and other sources, can distort individuals' understanding of healthy sleep practices. Such misinformation can lead to the adoption of unhealthy sleep behaviors, reducing sleep quality and exacerbating sleep disorders. Simultaneously,

A wolf at the door: the ecology, epidemiology, and emergence of community- and urban-level Rocky Mountain spotted fever in the Americas.

RMSF, a tickborne infection caused by Rickettsia rickettsii, produces severe and fatal disease in humans and dogs. Since the beginning of the 21st century, cases have risen dramatically, most notably in Mexico and Brazil, where outbreaks occur in urban centers including cities with populations of > 1,000,000 persons. Reported case fatality rates can exceed 50%. Factors consistent with high case fatality include lack of awareness of disease ecology, limited capacity for diagnosis, and delay in appropriate antimicrobial treatment. The emergence of urban hyperendemic foci has been leveraged by 2
