Samples of protein from the urine of 23 patients with lupus nephropathy and 15 patients with proteinuria who did not have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were studied for the presence of cytokines, soluble interleukin 2 receptors (sIL-2R), and free light chain immunoglobulins. Forty-three patients with malignant pleurisy due to lung cancer were entered into the trial to evaluate clinical efficacy of intrapleural instillation of recombinant interleukin-2 (RIL-2). Among 35 evaluable patients, serial cytological examinations of pleural effusion following the start of the treatment revealed disappearance of malignant cells in 26 (74%). INTRODUCTION: Positron emission tomography (PET) using radiolabeled Abs as imaging tracer is called immuno-PET. Immuno-PET can verify therapeutic Ab delivery and can noninvasively quantify global levels of target expression in tumors of living subjects. The interleukin-2 receptor α chain (IL-2Rα; CD25) is a promising target for immune therapy and radioimmunotherapy of lymphomas.
