In four cases of sigmoidovesical fistula secondary to sigmoid diverticulitis, the diagnosis was made by the findings of pneumaturia and fecaluria. The fistula was visualized in the bladder in two cases. A one-stage operative procedure was used for treating the condition. The patients recovered promptly with no morbidity.

In the patient who has received high dose irradiation of the pelvis and abdomen, all abdominopelvic operations should be avoided, unless it is absolutely essential. Persisting obstruction, hemorrhage, intestinal perforation with peritonitis and with abscess and fistula formation are valid indications for surgical intervention. Gastrosplenic fistula resulting from erosion of a primary splenic lymphoma is a rare cause of massive upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage associated with benign peptic ulcer disease, gastric Crohn's disease, gastric adenocarcinoma, and primary gastric and splenic lymphomas. A new surgical repair of enterocutaneous fistula associated with abdominal wound defects is presented. The authors turned over the fasciocutaneous flap from the surrounding skin and sutured the intestinal lumen directly to the cutaneous side of the flap. 79 surgical and postmortem cases of colon diverticulosis with complications were studied clinicomorphologically. Sequence in the development of inflammatory complications was revealed: diverticulum perforation-peridiverticulitis-pericolitic infiltrate, sometimes with the abscess-fistula. Segmental colitis may join the process. The complications onset depends mainly on discoordination of the intestinal peristalsis and intramural vascular deficiency.

Colovesical fistula is commonly suspected in cases of diverticular disease, malignancy, trauma, iatrogenic injury or radiotherapy.
