Submucous fibroids, polyps and dysfunctional bleeding are responsible for meno-metrorrhagia in women over 40 years of age. The authors describe the technique of hysteroscopic myomectomy and endometrial ablation using the Nd-YAG laser and the advantages of the preoperative use of GnRH agonist therapy. BACKGROUND: More than 83 cases of retinal laser injury were reported in the literature. Most of these cases involved direct exposure of the patient's retina to laser. The authors observed two patients who had laser injury to the retina caused by the reflected beams from a pulsed neodymium: YAG (Nd:YAG) laser.

Continuing experience with Nd:YAG noncontact sidefiring laser fibers over the past 4 years has shown encouraging results. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of performing a laparoscopic bladder autoaugmentation and to assess the urodynamic characteristics of an autoaugmented bladder.
METHODS: Laparoscopic bladder autoaugmentation was performed in 9 female canines (20 to 30 kg). Following laparoscopic access to the peritoneal cavity, a midline bladder seromyotomy was performed using the potassium titanyl phosphate 532 nm laser. This produced a large bladder diverticulum. Excimer laser in situ keratomileusis was done in 97 eyes of 59 patients to correct moderate and high myopia. Mean follow-up was 150 days. Mean preoperative myopia was -10.75 diopters (D). OBJECTIVE: To report the effectiveness and safety of endometrial laser ablation in the treatment of menorrhagia, as determined by detailed follow-up of 600 operations for at least 6 months.

BACKGROUND: Chrysiasis is a rare blue-gray skin discoloration that occurs in sun-exposed sites of some patients who receive gold salts. A unique case of localized chrysiasis developed immediately after Q-switched ruby laser (694 nm) irradiation for postinflammatory hyperpigmentation secondary to granuloma faciale in a patient who was receiving long-term gold sodium thiomalate therapy for psoriatic arthritis. The use of carbon dioxide laser for 38 posthetomies or therapeutic circumcisions in the treatment of phimosis, paraphimosis, balanitis of Zoon or a genital infection by the human papillomaviurs permits clean and hemostatic incisions. The clean and dry wound produced by the carbon dioxide beam offers several advantages. It reduces the surgeon's risk of contamination by the HIV virus and the subsequent sear is regular and without edema. A consecutive series of 11 patients presenting with obstructing laryngeal neoplasms over an 8-month period have been treated by laser debulking of the tumour in order to avoid a tracheotomy. Providing that all members of the team are experienced in microlaryngeal laser surgery, this technique can be safely and effectively used in the management of obstructing laryngeal neoplasms.

A preliminary series of endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy was carried out on 12 patients with nasolacrimal obstruction using a recently developed combined CO2-Nd:YAG laser that was guided by a fiberoptic light pipe inserted into the lacrimal sac through lacrimal canaliculi.
