PURPOSE: To analyze the influencing factors of orthodontic efficacy in adolescent patients and construct a logistic regression model.
METHODS: A total of 260 adolescent orthodontic patients treated from January 2019 to December 2023 were selected. The therapeutic effect was evaluated using the peer assessment rating (PAR) index. At the 2-year follow-up after treatment completion, patients with a reduction of more than 5 points in the PAR index compared with immediately post-treatment were assigned to the poor efficacy group (n=53), and the remaining patients were assigned to the favorable eff

The Curve of Spee (COS) is a critical aspect of occlusal anatomy that influences dental alignment and masticatory function. This study aims to evaluate whether COS modifications correlate with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) parameter changes following clear aligner therapy, and compare TMJ adaptations between patients with different initial COS depths. 50 adult patients with skeletal Class I and Class II malocclusions that underwent clear aligner orthodontic treatment were identified and divided into two groups based on their initial curve of Spee (COS) measurement. Group1: COS < 2 mm, and Grou

An effective orthodontic treatment should not only aim for satisfactory occlusal outcomes but also consider its impact on facial esthetics. The study aims to evaluate and compare the perception of profile esthetics of skeletal Class II patients treated with two orthodontic modalities: (1) Two-phase approach involving functional appliances followed by fixed appliances with premolar extractions, or (2) One-phase approach using fixed appliances with premolar extractions. Additionally, the study aims to evaluate the correlation between the perceived esthetics and the corresponding cephalometric me

There are several treatment options to treat a class II dentofacial deformity with a pronounced chin. A total subapical osteotomy is one of these options. This type of osteotomy was refined to total subapical and ramus (TSAR) osteotomy. In this technical note, a detailed and schematic presentation of the TSAR osteotomy is presented step by step. The surgical approach to the TSAR osteotomy is divided into three parts. The first part consists of the horizontal osteotomy at the level of the ramus, the second part approaches the corticotomy to release and protect the mental nerve and the third par

Removable appliances are an important part of orthodontic treatment. The Twin-block is widely used for Class II correction. Traditionally, an impression, bite registration, and mounted plaster casts are required to fabricate the acrylic appliance, which usually requires a specialized laboratory. This makes the process expensive and also time-consuming. This paper aims to present an innovative approach for the virtual design and direct printing of removable orthodontic appliances, particularly the Twin-block, that can be done in-office without the need for casts or a specialized laboratory.
