A hospital-based case-control study was conducted at the Allen Park Michigan Veterans Administration Medical Center to determine whether a diagnosis of systemic hypertension was associated with increased risk for senile cataracts. Data from 136 cataract extraction patients were compared to 142 controls. Systemic hypertension was found to increase significantly the risk for posterior subcapsular cataracts. BACKGROUND: In 2021, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) faced an increase in hospital-onset multidrug-resistant organisms; Candida auris increased to 1.4 per 1000 patient days, within critical care areas. This rise prompted the infection prevention and control team to enhance cleaning and disinfection practices, aiming to reduce infection transmission risks. The focus was on adherence to a structured cleaning protocol, which included high standards of equipment disinfection, regular audits and the establishment of roles and responsibilities for staff involved in cleaning and disinfection.

This qualitative study explored the hospitalization journey of people with dementia in Taiwan from their family caregivers' perspectives. Semi-structured interviews with nine caregivers revealed three key themes: care model tensions, psychological/moral burdens, and environmental conflicts. Hospitalization exposes systemic gaps between acute-care efficiency and dementia-friendly needs. Medical social workers play a vital role as humanizing advocates through early psychosocial support, caregiver advocacy, and integrated community transitions.
