Basal cell nevus syndrome is a genetically determined disease characterized by 5 major manifestations (multiple basal cell carcinomas, jaw cysts, skeletal abnormalities, pits of the hands and feet, and ectopic calcification) and a variety of developmental anomalies. We present a case of basal cell nevus syndrome in which the patient had adenoid cystic carcinoma of the minor salivary glands develop in the soft palate resulting in distant pulmonary metastases. The patient died at the age of 44 years of respiratory complications. To our knowledge, this is the first simultaneous occurrence of basa…

Blue nevus is an uncommon pigmented lesion of dermal melanocytes. By convention, two well defined histologic variants, designated as "common" and "cellular", have been recognised. In the last few years, these lesions have attracted much attention due to the recognition of news entities and to its confusion with malignant melanoma. In the present review, we point out the more striking features of new related entities (combined nevus, deep penetrating nevus, compound blue nevus) and establish the differential diagnosis with conflictive lesions such as atypical blue nevus, locally aggressive blue…

A 10-year old girl with generalized benign atrophic epidermolysis bullosa (EB) developed large nevomelanocytic nevi over a period of 1 year. Since such nevoid lesions have been repeatedly observed in other patients with generalized benign atrophic EB they should be regarded as a characteristic clinical feature of this type of mechanobullous disease. Regular observation of such patients will demonstrate the significance of these pigmented lesions as precursors of malignant melanoma.

BACKGROUND: Lacrimal caruncular tumors are rare and exhibit a diversity of possible histopathological types. The majority of caruncular tumo … ological examination disclosed a choroidal melanoma in the right eye and a subepithelial caruncular nevus with an overlying conjunctival papilloma emerging from the conjunctival epithelium of the nevus in the left eye. The patient made a complete recovery with no evidence of recurrence at the 12-month follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Coexistence of benign carunc …

BACKGROUND: Nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis (NLCS) is a rare benign hamartoma characterized by ectopic mature adipocytes within the dermis. Verrucous epidermal nevus (VEN) is a common epidermal hamartoma presenting with verrucous hyperplasia. The coexistence of these two entities in the same patient is exceedingly rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old male presented with an 8-year history of gradually enlarging, asymptomatic papules and nodules on his left lower back. Dermatological examination revealed multiple skin-colored lesions within an area of approximately 24 × 11 cm, arran…

Giant congenital melanocytic nevi of the scalp are rare congenital melanocytic lesions associated with cranial bone defects. Cranioplasty ca … m the frontal to parietal bones. Histopathological examination of a biopsy specimen revealed a blue nevus. Considering the patient's normal neurodevelopment and the non-progression of the bone defect during follow-up, elective cranioplasty was planned before school admission. BACKGROUND: Divided eyelid nevus represents a congenital melanocytic lesion that carries malignant transformation potential and may compromise both aesthetic appearance and functional integrity of the eyelids. This systematic review examines surgical techniques for the complete excision and subsequent reconstruction of such lesions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic search was conducted across multiple databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar, with the search extending until July 7, 2025. The main question of the study…

Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a variant of keratinocytic epidermal nevi. In contrast to noninflammatory epidermal naevi, ILVEN is less common, typically erythematous, and persistently pruritic. It usually appears at birth or in early childhood and follows a linear distribution along Blaschko's lines. Genital or perigenital involvement is relatively rare. We report a case of ILVEN on the labia majora of an 11-year-old female. ILVEN usually presents on extremities and trunk, but is uncommon on the genitalia.

INTRODUCTION: Large congenital melanocytic nevi (LCMNs) are mainly classified according to their distribution patterns, which are thought to reflect their embryological development.
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to test the validity of previously described clinical classification systems of LCMNs in a large, well-documented case series.
METHODS: The retrospective cohort study including 111 LCMN patients focused on the anatomical distribution of the nevus's main mass.
RESULTS: The trunk was most commonly affected (N=68), followed by the lower extremities (N=35). When the locations of the nevi were ev…

Halo nevus (HN) is benign skin condition with a central melanocytic nevus, surrounded by an area or halo of depigmentation. It is the result of immunological response of the body toward the nevus, which destroys the melanocytes in surrounding skin, leading to the depigmented halo. An increased frequency of HN in patients with vitiligo is observed. It is more commonly seen in children or young adults of either sex, particularly on the trunk, less commonly on the face, neck, and limbs. We present a rare case of HN which was present on the lower eyelid associated with poliosis, diagnosed with der…

Oral common blue nevus is an asymptomatic, benign, rare, pigmented lesion and sometimes clinically indistinguishable from other pigmented lesions such as the cellular blue nevus or early-stage malignant melanoma. Since it shows clinical similarities with a malignant lesion and with cellular blue nevus that can itself suffer malignant transformation, the decisive diagnosis is crucial for adequate treatment, follow-up, and prognosis. Diagnosis confirmation is given by histological analysis, the reason why most oral pigmented lesions are excised. The following case presents an asymptomatic oral p…

Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a rare type of epidermal nevus, commonly arising in childhood. We present a case of a 13-year-old female with Blaschkoid psoriasiform plaques extending from her left foot to the scalp, sparing the right side of the body. While treatment options historically show variable success, we trialed an IL-17a receptor inhibitor as studies have shown increased levels of IL-17 receptor expression in ILVEN keratinocytes. At both 3 and 6 months after treatment initiation there was found to be significant improvement. We propose brodalumab as an effec…

Becker's nevus (BN) is a cutaneous hamartoma of benign nature that develops through adolescence and affects mostly young men. The nevus is usually located unilaterally and is characterized by hypertrichosis and hyperpigmentation. Despite recent advances in treatment modalities, no effective treatment has been established for BN hyperpigmentation. We sought to assess the efficacy and safety of fractional Erbium: YAG 2940 nm and Q-switched Nd: YAG 1064 nm lasers in the treatment of BN hyperpigmentation. Twenty-three patients with BN were included in a prospective, randomized-controlled, observer…

BACKGROUND: Dermatoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic tool for pigmented lesions. However, data regarding dermatoscopic features in melasma and Hori's nevus, which are commonly found in Asian populations, are still lacking. In addition, melasma coexisting with Hori's nevus presents a particular diagnostic challenge and they generally require different treatments.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to describe the dermatoscopic features of melasma and Hori's nevus and to establish diagnostic clues for each condition.
METHODS: Fifty patients with melasma and 46 patients with Hori's nevus were enrolled in the…

A sebaceous nevus is a congenital skin hamartoma caused by postzygotic HRAS or KRAS mosaic mutations. With age, affected individuals may develop secondary tumors within a sebaceous nevus. RAS mutations are harbored from the onset of sebaceous nevus, and further mutations can be expected to be required in order to explain the initiation of secondary tumors. However, genetic analyses of the secondary tumors have not been conducted. Herein, we describe the rare coexistence of a poroma and a trichoblastoma arising in a sebaceous nevus. This is the first report of an investigation of multiple genes…
