Implementation of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations to reduce sudden infant death syndrome risk in neonatal intensive care units: An evaluation of nursing knowledge and practice.

UNLABELLED: There is a direct relationship between nonsupine sleeping and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Premature infants are at greater risk for SIDS and are often cared for in nonsupine positions during the course of hospitalization. Healthy premature infants should be placed supine for sleep before discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and parents receive specific instruction about infant sleep position and other risk factors for SIDS. Most published literature addressing nursing practices for SIDS reduction reflects practices with the healthy newborn population. P

Effects of mental practice embedded in daily therapy compared to therapy as usual in adult stroke patients in Dutch nursing homes: design of a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Mental practice as an additional cognitive therapy is getting increased attention in stroke rehabilitation. A systematic review shows some evidence that several techniques in which movements are rehearsed mentally might be effective but not enough to be certain. This trial investigates whether mental practice can contribute to a quicker and/or better recovery of stroke in two Dutch nursing homes. The objective is to investigate the therapeutic potential of mental practice embedded in daily therapy to improve individually chosen daily activities of adult stroke patients compared to

The association between advanced practice nurse visiting services and acute healthcare utilization in long-term care residents: A retrospective cohort study with propensity score matching.

BACKGROUND: Residents in long-term care settings have complex medical and functional needs, and the early period following facility admission represents a vulnerable transitional phase. Registered nurses are often not available on-site in institutional long-term care settings, in Korea and globally, limiting the capacity to respond to acute challenges. In 2014, Korea expanded home-visit advanced practice nurse visiting services to cover long-term care residents, enabling advanced practice nurses to deliver skilled nursing interventions within institutional long-term care settings. OBJECTIVE:
