A 3-month-old female infant with Dandy-Walker malformation manifesting as hydrocephalus was treated successfully by only ventriculoperitoneal shunting. A flexible neuroendoscope was used intraoperatively to confirm the patency of the aqueduct, i.e. communication of the ventricular system and the cyst in the posterior fossa. Direct confirmation of the patency of the aqueduct and cyst communication is valuable to select the shunt procedure in the treatment of Dandy-Walker malformation.

Anterior impingement of the ankle results from osteophyte formation on the anterior edge of the distal tibia. Classically, subsequent degeneration results in an osteophyte forming on the anterior neck of the talus. This results in limited dorsiflexion and impingement seen in the ankles of athletes. Recent clinical observation in high performance soccer players has revealed a previously unrecognized pattern of a localized divot forming in the talar neck in place of the osteophyte. This accepts the tibial osteophyte during dorsiflexion, which is therefore not limited in these patients.

BACKGROUND: The finding of lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) in the breast has generally prompted treatment with unilateral or bilateral mastectomy. Most experts now feel that LCIS simply identifies a woman who is at high risk to develop future breast cancer and requires only close clinical and mammographic follow-up. 41 cases still showing various symptoms and signs after having been operated on for intralaryngeal conditions were treated with Yiqi Kaiyin Tang [symbol: see text] the vital energy replenishing and voice restoring decoction). The chief clinical manifestations were hoarseness of voice, lack of strength for speech, feeling of dryness and pain in the throat with foreign body sensation or burning sensation, and aphonia. The treatment lasted 15-60 days, resulting in cure in 19 cases, improvement in 16 cases, and no response in 6 cases, making a total effectiveness rate of 85.4%.

The Anorectic Behavior Observation Scale (ABOS) is a new self-reporting questionnaire developed to obtain information from parents about specific behaviors and attitudes in their children that might be symptomatic for anorexia or bulimia nervosa.
