Open reduction via posterior triceps sparing approach in comparison with closed treatment of posteromedial displaced Gartland type III supracondylar humerus fractures.

The results of closed and open reduction via posterior approach with percutaneous pinning of posteromedial displaced supracondylar humerus fractures in children were evaluated. Fifty-five consecutive patients with Gartland type III fractures were reviewed. The mean follow-up period was 22 months (12-48 months). The closed reduction group consisted of 32 patients and the open reduction group with the posterior approach using the triceps-sparing method consisted of 23 patients. Both groups were stabilized with cross Kirschner wire fixation and followed the same protocol. In comparison with close

Humeral head necrosis rate at mid-term follow-up after open reduction and angular stable plate fixation for proximal humeral fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Short-term follow-up of angular stable fixation for proximal humeral fractures has been well documented in the literature. Longer follow-up series are difficult to find. However, especially regarding the risk of avascular humeral head necrosis longer follow-up series are high of clinical relevance. METHODS: Forty-eight patients with a mean age of 66 years and treated with open reduction and angular stable internal fixation for proximal humeral fractures were followed up for a mean of 45 months. The clinical and radiographic follow-up (Constant Score (CS), age and gender related

Open reduction and internal fixation compared with circular fixator application for bicondylar tibial plateau fractures. Results of a multicenter, prospective, randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Standard open reduction and internal fixation techniques have been successful in restoring osseous alignment for bicondylar tibial plateau fractures; however, surgical morbidity, especially soft-tissue infection and wound necrosis, has been reported frequently. For this reason, several investigators have proposed minimally invasive methods of fracture reduction followed by circular external fixation as an alternative approach. To our knowledge, there has been no direct comparison of the two operative approaches. METHODS: We performed a multicenter, prospective, randomized clinical

Does the Method of Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Mandibular Angle Fracture Differentially Affect Postoperative Strength of Jaw Muscles as Assessed by Surface Electromyography? An Analytical Study.

OBJECTIVE: Individuals with Fanconi anemia (FA) are predisposed to develop ovarian cancer than those without FA, this is largely contributed to promoter methylation of the FANCF gene and subsequent disruption of the FA-BRCA pathway. In an attempt to understand more molecular genetic bases of ovarian cancer, we examined the expression of the FANCF and the status of the promoter methylation of the FANCF gene in ovarian cancer. METHODS: Seven ovarian cancer cell lines and eighteen ovarian cancer specimens were selected for this study. Both genomic DNA and total RNA were extracted from fresh tiss

Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis, open reduction and plate fixation, and intramedullary nailing for humeral shaft fractures: A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: The optimal surgical technique for humeral shaft fractures remains debated, and earlier syntheses often pooled all plate constructs, disregarding the distinction between open reduction and plate fixation (ORPF) and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). This network meta-analysis compared ORPF, MIPO, and intramedullary nailing (IMN), focusing on iatrogenic radial nerve injury. METHODS: We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Scopus from inception through December 2024, with the PubMed search updated through January 2026, following the PRISMA network meta

Association of Open Reduction and Internal Fixation With Volar Locking Plate for Distal Radius Fractures With Patient-Reported Outcomes in Older Adults: A Network Meta-analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses have reported inconsistent conclusions regarding optimal distal radius fracture (DRF) treatment in older adults and are limited due to the inclusion of cohort studies with small sample sizes. A network meta-analysis (NMA) addresses these limitations by only synthesizing direct and indirect evidence from RCTs and may clarify optimal DRF treatment in older adults. OBJECTIVE: To examine DRF treatment results in optimal short-term and intermediate-term patient-reported outcomes. DATA SOURCES: Searches of MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and
