OBJECTIVE: Hypertension is common in the pediatric population. There is increasing evidence for early hypertensive target organ damage that may lead to substantial long-term morbidity. Because a critical aspect of any screening program for hypertension is the ability to measure blood pressure accurately, we compared typical blood pressure measurements at a vital sign station with those that were obtained following recommendations set forth in "The Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents."

Several surgical methods are used to treat peritonsillar abscess, but no protocol for outpatient medical treatment has yet been published. Between February 2002 and February 2005, we treated 98 peritonsillar abscess patients with an outpatient medical regimen that involved hydration, antibiotics, steroids, and good pain control. All patients were Native Americans, who are known to have a particularly high incidence of peritonsillar abscess. OBJECTIVE: According to recent surveys, outpatient antibiotic prescribing in Germany has been comparatively low among European countries. We assessed regional variation in outpatient antibiotic use within Germany both for overall use as well as for specific antibiotic drug classes.
METHODS: Prescription data for the year 2003 covering approximately 90% of the total population were analysed using the ATC/WHO defined daily dose (DDD) methodology. Data were expressed in DDD per 1,000 persons covered by the insurance and day (DID).

OBJECTIVES: Describe the pattern of utilization and effectiveness of outpatient fracture pain medication.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of caregivers of children with an isolated extremity fracture at a hospital-based pediatric orthopedic clinic during initial follow-up.
RESULTS: Surveys were completed by 98 (79.2%) of 125 caregivers. Mean age of children was 9 years (range, 1-18 years). Fracture sites include arm (36%), wrist (24%), hand (6%), leg (14%), ankle (9%), and foot (6%). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of outpatient intravenous dihydroergotamine (DHE) for treatment of refractory cluster headache.
METHOD: Medical records were retrospectively reviewed of all patients with cluster headache who received outpatient intravenous DHE for treatment of refractory cluster headache between January 1992 and May 2000.
