Mediastinal radiotherapy of more than 60 Gy highly compromises bronchial and wound healing after lung resection. Nine patients with primary lung cancers underwent radical resection after high radiation doses. Eight patients had primary lung cancer previously treated by radiotherapy alone (n = 2) or associated with chemotherapy (n = 6). One patient had a tracheal cancer involving the carina that was previously treated by radiotherapy. Seven patients underwent pneumonectomy and one patient underwent lobectomy with reinforcement of bronchial stump closure with use of the serratus anterior muscle.

CASE: A 30-year-old woman with an irreparable subscapularis tear presented with persistent painful anterior instability despite several open and arthroscopic stabilization procedures. A pectoralis major tendon transfer (PMTT) was performed. The patient subsequently developed progressive glenohumeral arthritis over the next 10 years, ultimately necessitating shoulder arthroplasty.

OBJECTIVE: Identify the axillopectoral muscle (usually called Langer's axillary arch) and know the main surgical techniques of axillary sentinel node biopsies.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We present the results of our five-year clinical prospective study: the presence of this anomaly is diagnosed peroperatively during a sentinel node biopsy.
RESULTS: Langer's arch is identified in 1,7%, often with an unilateral distribution. Lymph nodes are just near or behind the muscle. Sentinel node biopsy dissection is difficult in about 40%.

BACKGROUND: Axillary dissection is the gold standard for treatment of the axilla. It provides important prognostic information, accurately stages the axilla, and has the lowest recurrence rate among all modalities. In today's age of conservation surgery, the axilla is often addressed through a cosmetically acceptable small incision with limited access, thereby making clearance of the level III nodes difficult.
METHODS: We describe a method of apical lymph node dissection through the interpectoral plane, which effectively clears the apex despite the constraints of limited exposure.

A case of Poland's syndrome in a newborn is described. The syndrome is relatively unknown, especially in its epidemiological and aetiopathogenetic aspects. It's characterized by aplasia of the sternal head of the pectoral major muscle, hypoplasia of the upper extremities and homolateral aplasia of II, III, IV, V finger. Attention is drawn to the importance of reporting diagnosed cases in order to further our knowledge of the syndrome. The Authors are looking with a big interest the correlation between hair treatment and Poland's anomaly.

Fifty-nine cases undergone one-stage reconstruction following radical resection for oropharyngeal carcinoma were reviewed. Pectoralis major myocutaneous flap has been our first choice for reconstruction of surgical defects. A composite repair with forehead island flap and mucosal flap of the posterior pharyngeal wall for defect of the total soft palate was recommended. Preoperative radiation had some influence on wound healing. The 3 and 5 year survival rates were 58.1% and 41.7% respectively, and the cosmetic and functional restorations were satisfactory in most patients operated.

Reconstructive oral and maxillofacial surgeons often find the need for additional soft tissue even when a myocutaneous flap has been previously placed. This article introduces the principles, technique, and results of 32 "walk-up" muscle flaps derived from existing myocutaneous flaps.
