Intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) is a useful surgical procedure for mandibular setback in patients with mandibular prognathism or mandibular asymmetry. IVRO has some intraoperative complications, such as the medial trapping of the proximal segment. Several techniques have been described to overcome this problem, but none can prevent it. This technical report describes a method that prevents the medial trapping of the proximal segment during IVRO.

We report 6 cases of recalcitrant non-union of forearm bones treated with a free vascularized thin corticoperiosteal graft harvested from the medial condyle of the femur. All non-unions healed. In one 58-year-old patient a fracture of the femur occurred.

Reconstruction of a lower lip deformity associated with leakage of saliva (drooling) and food spillage is challenging. To achieve complete closure of the mouth, the lips must have a sufficient and uniform thickness. Here we report a patient with lower lip deformity secondary to resection of a malignant tumor, in whom reconstruction was done with a hard palate mucoperiosteal graft. Perfect mouth closure without any leakage of saliva and a natural contour of the reconstructed lower lip were obtained, thus providing good aesthetic and functional results. This prospective, non-randomized study was aimed to evaluate the effects of abrasive arthroplasty and periosteal arthroplasty in the treatment of deep chondral defects of the patella. We describe a patient with painful enlargement and severe nail deformity of both great toes. The patient furthermore presented with some minor diagnostic criteria for psoriasis such as nail pitting and had a positive family history of the disease. In the recent literature, such cases have been recognized as a new entity termed psoriatic onycho-pachydermo-periostitis (POPP). In this case report, POPP is discussed in relationship to other forms of psoriatic arthropathy and with special emphasis regarding its diagnostic criteria and therapeutic implications.

Roentgencephalometric studies were carried out at the age of five years in 27 boys with unilateral cleft lip and palate after primary bone grafting, as well as in 25 boys with the same type of cleft after primary periosteoplasty and in 27 normal boys who served as a group of controls. Although injuries to the frontal sinus are a reasonably common traumatic injury encountered by reconstructive surgeons, definitive indications for open exploration and the optimum method for handling the residual sinus cavity remain unsettled. During the last 3 years, we have accomplished frontal sinus obliteration with an "extended" pericranial flap in 14 consecutive patients. Thus far, we have not encountered any complications.

Reconstruction of the damaged articular surface of the patellar articulation with free periosteal grafts was performed in 13 patients who had not responded to previous treatment. After an average of 4 years, a good result was obtained in 8 patients and a fair result in 4 others. Only 1 patient, a 55-year-old man with severe patellar arthrosis, continued to have disabling pain.
