The exact anatomical course of the spermatic vein and the ovarian vein (gonadal) has not been described in detail previously. To determine the precise anatomy of the gonadal veins an autopsy study of 70 fresh human cadavers (40 men, 10 women, 10 male stillborns and 10 female stillborns) was performed by making a resin cast of both gonadal veins which then was carefully dissected. The authors report a case of thrombosis of the distal end of an enlarged right posterior epidural vein. The patient had a markedly narrow lumbar canal due to 1.5 spondylolisthesis. The dilated vein and the thrombosis were displayed by computed tomography but remained unrecognized until surgery. Pathogenesis of this condition is discussed. A review of the english, french and german literature revealed no prior radiological reports of a similar condition.

A review has been made of the angiographic findings of different benign and malignant pancreatic lesions. The limited need for angiography as a diagnostic procedure is emphasized with guidelines to its indications when such other diagnostic modalities as US and CT are available. The technique, indications and results of pancreatic venography and venous sampling for hormone assay are discussed.

A short account of the aetiopathogenesis of the iliac vein compression syndrome is followed by a description of a little-known form, called Cockett's syndrome, due to compression of the left iliac vein by the right common iliac artery. This syndrome should be looked for with care. If diagnosed in the "functional" stage, it can be ameliorated by means of a special surgical treatment known as "venous stocking plasty".

Epinephrine renal venography was used to study mass-like enlargements of normal renal tissue in 4 kidneys (3 with prominent septa of Bertin and 1 with marked lobation) in 3 patients. Normal veins penetrating the pseudotumor were always present; the septa of Bertin also caused stretching of the interlobar veins. No encased or obstructed veins were observed. This technique may be of value in cases of suspected pseudotumor where arteriography and noninvasive procedures do not permit an unequivocal diagnosis.

Cerebral venograms of 21 clinical cases of midline anomalies of the brain and of 80 human fetuses between 3 and 8 months old were examined. The diagnostic value of the venogram was fully proven, particularly for the midline cerebral anomalies, where deep cerebral structures and configuration of the tentorium cerebelli were not well visualized by other neuroradiologic maneuvers. Abnormal structures of the deep cerebral veins as well as the dural sinuses in these malformations were proved to retain the venous structures in the early fetal period. Pre-operative localization of parathyroid tumours on primary hyperparathyroidism is discussed. 20 patients were examined in this way. Of the 15 patients who were operated on, the pre-operative findings of 12 correspond with the results of operations and histological examinations. These results correspond with what is known from other publications. Preoperative localization by means of venous sampling is possible in a large number of cases. The examination is especially important in patients with previous neck exploration.
