Pincer-type mono- and poly-nuclear Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes bearing imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine and imidazolylpyridine moieties were synthesized and characterized using several spectroscopic methods. Determination of molecular structures of these complexes using single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed a distorted square planar geometry around the bivalent palladium and platinum in all the complexes. These Pd(II) complexes displayed high catalytic activity in various reactions, such as the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, transfer hydrogenation reaction, and alkyne homocoupling.
