Pulse wave from transit ratios in the assessment of peripheral vascular disease.

This paper presents a ratio of the pulse wave form transit times in the proximal and distal arterial tree, produced by a simple, non-invasive, repeatable and reproducible technique. It has been shown to be highly significant in separating normal from disease states and the proximal from the distal lesion. It has been shown to be independent of the effects of age. In the clinical situation the ratio is of value in the initial assessment of the patient (by separating ischaemic from now-ischaemic limb pain); in elucidation of significant occult proximal lesions in the presence of distal disease; …

Pulse radiolytic investigation of single heme group reduction in hum an methemoglobin.

Reduction of one of the four heme groups of human aquomethemoglobin A has been investigated by the pulse radiolysis method. The reactivity of e-a-q, the hydrated electron, with methemoglobin was determined by observing this species directly. The separate reactions of the hydroxy yl radical and hydrogen atom, as well as of e-a-q, were studied by observing absorbance changes in the protein spectrum over the wavelength range 290 to 600nm, with appropriate scavengers in solution...

A digital volume pulse device-finger photo pulse plethysmography to trace the vascular integrity amongst the low back pain subjects with lumbar disc degenerative diseases diagnosed by MRI analysis.

Finger photo pulse plethysmography is a simple, inexpensive and non-invasive method for measurement of arterial stiffness. The objective is to assess the correlation of arterial stiffness in low back pain subjects with lumbar disc degeneration. Thirty-four back pain patients of both sexes in age group of 30-65 were included. Anthropometric measures like height, body weight, body mass index (BMI) were included. Stiffness index (SI) and reflection index (RI) were measured from the digital volume pulse waveform. There was a negative correlation between SI/RI and no correlation between SI and RI w…

Ultrasonographic and Clinical Outcomes of Pulsed Ultrasound Versus Pulsed Shortwave Diathermy in Mild-to-Moderate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: To compare the clinical and ultrasonographic effects of pulsed therapeutic ultrasound (US) and pulsed shortwave diathermy (SWD) in patients with mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 40 patients with electrophysiologically confirmed mild-to-moderate CTS were randomly allocated into two groups. Both groups received wrist splinting and tendon-nerve gliding exercises. The US group received 15 sessions of pulsed ultrasound therapy (3 MHz, 0.8 W/cm2), whereas the SWD group received 15 sessions of pulsed shortwave diathermy (80 Hz, 1…

Clinical observation of pyogenic granuloma treated with combined long-pulse 1064nm Nd: YAG laser and pulsed CO2 laser photodynamic therapy.

To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of long-pulse 1064nm Nd: YAG laser combined with pulsed CO2 laser and topical application of aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride for photodynamic therapy in treating pyogenic granuloma. 20 patients with pyogenic granuloma were treated with a combination of long-pulse 1064nm Nd: YAG laser and pulsed CO2 laser along with photodynamic therapy using aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride. The efficacy, recurrence rate, and safety were observed at 1 month and 2 months post-treatment. All patients achieved a 100%cure rate and total effectiveness with a single tre…

Calibration-free whole-brain CEST imaging at 7T with parallel transmit pulse design for saturation homogeneity utilizing universal pulses (PUSHUP).

PURPOSE: Chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) measurements at ultra-high field (UHF) suffer from strong saturation inhomogeneity. Retrospective correction of this inhomogeneity is possible to some extent, but requires a time-consuming repetition of the measurement. Here, we propose a calibration-free parallel transmit (pTx)-based saturation scheme that homogenizes the saturation over the imaging volume, which we call PUlse design for Saturation Homogeneity utilizing Universal Pulses (PUSHUP). THEORY: Magnetization transfer effects depend on the saturation B 1 rms $$ {\mathrm{B}}_…

Intense pulsed light versus pulsed dye laser in the treatment of nail psoriasis: Intra-patient left to right comparative controlled study.

Background Until now, the management of psoriatic nails has not been satisfactory. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) as well as intense pulsed light (IPL) have been evaluated separately for the management of psoriatic nails and proved to be effective. Aim This study aimed to measure and compare the usefulness as well as the safety of intense pulsed light versus pulsed dye laser for the management of psoriatic nails. Methods The psoriatic fingernails of 20 patients were managed using intense pulsed light on one hand and pulsed dye laser on the other. Two to three psoriatic nails were left without treatmen…

[Clinical comparative study of pulsed dye laser and ultra-pulsed fractional carbon dioxide laser in the treatment of hypertrophic scars after burns].

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of pulsed dye laser (PDL) and ultra-pulsed fractional carbon dioxide laser (UFCL) in treating hypertrophic scars after burns. Methods: Two hundred and twenty one patients with hypertrophic scar after burns conforming to the study criteria were admitted to our unit from February 2015 to October 2017, and their data were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into group PDL (n=122) and group UFCL (n=99) according to the treatment method. Patients in group PDL were treated with PDL once every 3-4 weeks. Patients in group UFCL were treated wit…

Pulsed dye laser versus long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloid: A comparative randomized split-scar trial.

INTRODUCTION: Keloids and hypertrophic scars are benign fibrous growths that occur after trauma or wounding of the skin and present a major therapeutic problem. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of pulsed dye laser (PDL) versus Nd:YAG laser in hypertrophic scar and keloid. METHODS: Twenty patients with hypertrophic scars and keloid were included in this prospective, randomized, split-scar study. Half of each scar was randomized to treatment with a 595-nm PDL and the contralateral half with the 1064-nm Nd:YAG. Each patient received 6 laser treat…

Comparative evaluation of long pulse Alexandrite laser and intense pulsed light systems for pseudofolliculitis barbae treatment with one year of follow up.

BACKGROUND: Existing remedies for controlling pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) are sometimes helpful; however the positive effects are often short lived. The only definitive cure for PFB is permanent removal of the hair follicle. AIMS: Our aim was to compare the efficacy of the Alexandrite laser with the intense pulsed light system in the treatment of PFB and to follow up the recurrence. METHODS: Twenty male patients seeking laser hair removal for the treatment of PFB were enrolled in this study. One half of the face was treated with the long-pulse Alexandrite laser and the other half was tre…

Efficacy and safety comparison between pulsed dye laser and intense pulsed light configured with different wavelength bands in treating erythematotelangiectatic rosacea.

Previous clinical studies have shown that pulsed dye laser (PDL) and intense pulsed light (IPL) are effective for treating erythematotelangiectatic rosacea(ETR). This article aims to compare the efficacy and safety of PDL and IPL at three different wavelength bands (broad-band, single-narrow-band, and dual-narrow-band) in treating ETR. Sixty subjects with ETR were randomly categorized into four groups and received one of the following laser treatments: PDL (595 nm), IPL with Delicate Pulse Light (DPL, 500-600 nm), IPL with M22 590 (590-1200 nm), or IPL with M22 vascular filter (530-650 nm and …
