[Effect of temperature on Ca induced Ca release (CICR) rate].

The aim of this study is to assess the effect of temperature on CICR rate. The extensor digitorum longus muscles of male Hartley guinea pigs of about 450 g, were prepared for this study. According to Endo's method, CICR rates were measured using chemically skinned fibers. Two plates were prepared: one at 20 degrees C and the other at 30, 35, 37, 40 degrees C controlled by circulating water at an appropriate temperature placed underneath each plate. The whole procedure was carried out at 20 degrees C except the step of CICR using a plate at a given temperature. An increase in temperature (20 to

Niacin skin-flush response and electrodermal activity in patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls.

Patients with schizophrenia have in different studies shown reduced niacin sensitivity and lower electrodermal activity (EDA) after auditory stimulation. Peripheral mediation of prostaglandins may have a physiological role in both responses. This motivates study of both niacin response and electrodermal responding in the same patients with schizophrenia. Thirty patients with schizophrenia and 17 controls were investigated with EDA and thereafter given 200mg niacin orally with continuous assessment of skin temperature. The patients showed a delayed temperature increase after niacin ingestion (P…

Clothing and exercise. I: Biophysics of heat transfer between the individual, clothing and environment.

Despite large environmental variations, the human body maintains a tightly regulated core temperature. Effective thermoregulation must balance the interaction between skin surface, clothing and ambient air. Indices of thermal stress (wet bulb globe temperature, heat stress index, maximum evaporation rate, required evaporative rate and wind chill) provide valuable information concerning the heat exchange between the individual and the environment, and serve as protective guidelines while working in environmental extremes. The role of clothing, as an interactive barrier, greatly affects thermal

[Management of dermatologic industrial accidents. Skin burns by bitumen as an example].

Hot bitumen burns, although rare, usually occur in workers in the paving or roofing industries. When bitumen is heated to high temperatures it can cause deep burns, and its incorrect removal often causes further skin damage. Application of butter has been proven to be very effective to remove bitumen from the skin. Further clinical and legal safety guidelines for occupational injuries are described.

Thermographic mapping of the skin surface in biometric evaluation of cellulite treatment effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: Cellulite is one of the worst tolerated aesthetic imperfections. Edema that accompanies cellulite causes disorders of blood flow what may be observed as changes in the skin surface temperature. The aim of this paper was to develop a new method based on the analysis and processing of thermal images of the skin for biometric evaluation of severity of cellulite and monitoring its treatment. METHODS: The observations of the treatment effects were conducted on 10 females (33.4 ± 6.4 years). Thermal images of the volunteers' thighs were captured before starting the therapy (T0 ). In the

Antitumor effects of plasma‑activated solution on a murine melanoma model in vivo and in vitro.

Melanoma is a common malignant skin tumor with highly invasive features and a high metastasis rate that can be difficult to treat clinically. Large-scale resection of primary cutaneous melanoma is often used to avoid postoperative recurrence. For advanced patients, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy are often needed. Low-temperature plasma has been proved to have significant antitumor effects on a variety of cancer cell lines cultured in vitro. The main limitation of direct low-temperature plasma treatment is that it has weak penetration ability and can only treat superficial les

Triboelectric E-Skin for Robotic Perception of Hazardous Chemical Leaks.

The rapid identification of chemical composition, temperature, and dynamic behavior of leaked liquids by robots during accidental spills of hazardous chemicals would significantly reduce the potential risks to both human health and the environment. Here, we designed a flexible, palm-shaped liquid-sensing e-skin (PSLSES) featuring 128 metal electrodes fabricated via flexible printed circuit (FPC) technology and coated with a fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) film. By capturing the local triboelectrification signals along the droplet's trajectory, PSLSES enables multimodal dynamic liquid sens

Temperature-induced changes in structural and physicochemical properties of vernix caseosa.

The skin of the third trimester fetus and early newborn exhibits a complex, multifunctional, highly hydrated but viscous skin-surface biofilm called vernix caseosa (VC). During birth, VC undergoes a substantial change from an aqueous and warm surrounding into a gaseous and colder environment postnatally. The aim of this study was to investigate the structural and physicochemical changes in VC, which accompany physiologically relevant variations in environment parameters, such as temperature and humidity. A remarkable difference was observed in water release and uptake properties: dehydration a

Body-temperature responsive hydrogel adhesive for active wound closure.

Hydrogels have extensive application in sutureless wound closure and healing. For relying on the natural recovery rate of the skin or tissue often results in prolonged healing periods due to the gradual process of wound contraction facilitated by cell migration, our approach involves the integration of two distinct layers to create a cohesive and innovative body-temperature responsive hydrogel tape (TRAT). The shape memory layer of P(PTHF-co-PEG-co-PETMP) possesses excellent mechanical properties and adjustable temperature-responsive characteristics. Upon integration with the adhesive layer co

Amplitude variation in spanwise wall oscillations: Effects on drag reduction and heat transfer in compressible turbulent channel flow.

Spanwise Wall Oscillation is a promising active flow control technique for turbulent skin-friction drag reduction (DR). While the effectiveness of the method in incompressible flows is well documented, its performance in compressible regimes, and the underlying physical mechanisms, particularly those related to thermal fields, remain relatively unexplored. The present study employs Direct Numerical Simulation to investigate the effects of different oscillation amplitudes on compressible channel turbulent flow, with particular emphasis on wall heat transfer. A detailed analysis is performed on

Electrodermal dissociation of chronic fatigue and depression: evidence for distinct physiological mechanisms.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) has an estimated prevalence between 0.5% and 3%, yet its diagnosis remains contentious. CFS is characterized by subjective symptoms that can be difficult to verify; moreover, depression is a commonly reported CFS complaint, whereas fatigue is a common symptom of depression. Our primary goal was dissociation of these disorders using psychophysiological methods. As previous research has implicated the autonomic nervous system in CFS, we conducted what we believe to be the first analysis of bilateral electrodermal and skin temperature responses of dextral females in…
