Accumulating neuroimaging evidence suggests that abnormal functional connectivity of the default mode network (DMN) contributes to the social-cognitive deficits of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Although most previous studies relied on conventional functional connectivity methods, which assume that connectivity patterns remain constant over time, understanding the temporal dynamics of functional connectivity during rest may provide new insights into the dysfunction of the DMN in ASD. In this work, dynamic functional connectivity analysis based on sliding time window correlation was applied to

ISSUE ADDRESSED: Oppression and violence associated with colonisation have contributed to intergenerational trauma and health inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Health promotion can help reduce inequities by strengthening connections that support social and emotional wellbeing and enable conditions for communities to lead healthy lives. While culturally responsive health promotion strategies exist, it is unknown the extent to which these account for trauma.
METHODS: We conducted a narrative review to examine the intersection of evidence describing social and emotion

Background/Objectives: Advanced chronic diseases significantly compromise the quality of life of patients and their family caregivers due to the high symptom burden, psychosocial distress, and increasing care dependency. Despite recommendations for the early integration of these individuals into Palliative Care (PC), understanding hope as a resource for adaptation to the illness trajectory remains limited. This study aimed to describe the lived experience of hope among dyads consisting of individuals with advanced chronic disease and their family caregivers. Methods: A qualitative descriptive

BACKGROUND: Physical disabilities affect approximately 240 million children globally, with limited access to comprehensive care in resource-constrained settings. In Nepal, an estimated 2% of children under 16 experience physical disabilities, facing significant barriers to healthcare access, education, and social integration. Traditional healthcare models often struggle to provide affordable, accessible, and sustainable care for these children.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of an innovative private-nonprofit partnership model between the Hospital and Rehabilitat…

The integration of physical and mental health, housing, social care, police, voluntary, and community services, alongside trauma-informed care, is vital for supporting people experiencing homelessness. This study examined organisational networks in rural and coastal regions of North East England, mapping and analysing these networks to identify provision, gaps, and opportunities for integration, and trauma-informed care. A mixed-methods study was conducted in rural and coastal areas of North East England, using purposive and snowball sampling for recruitment. Surveys collected data on inter-or

This study examined whether disruptions in connectivity involving regions critical for learning, planning, and executing movements are relevant to core autism symptoms. Spatially constrained ICA was performed using resting-state fMRI from 419 children (autism spectrum disorder (ASD) = 105; typically developing (TD) = 314) to identify functional motor subdivisions. Comparing the spatial organization of each subdivision between groups, we found voxels that contributed significantly less to the right posterior cerebellar component in children with ASD versus TD (P <0.001). Next, we examined the e

Approximately one-third of people who have obtained refugee status live in high-income countries. Over recent years, the number of refugees … ng-term resettled refugees, rates of anxiety and depressive disorders are higher and linked to poor social integration. Research on mental health care for refugees in high-income countries has been extensive, but often of limited methodological quality and with very context-specific findings. The existing evidence suggests several general principles of good practice …

INTRODUCTION: Evidence for the efficacy of treatments for autism has improved in recent years. In this systematic review the evidence for both drug and non-drug treatments is appraised and clinical guidance is provided for their use.
METHODS AND OUTCOMES: We conducted a systematic review and aimed to answer the following clinical questions: What are the effects of early intensive multidisciplinary intervention programmes in children with autism? What are the effects of dietary interventions in children with autism? What are the effects of drug treatments in children with autism? What are the

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review synthetizes findings reflecting the increasing racial and ethnic inequities in opioid overdose mortality and emphasizes the necessity for tailored interventions as well as other policy-level and structural strategies to stem this trend.
RECENT FINDINGS: Factors contributing to inequities in overdose mortality include changes in drug supply, persistent social-structural vulnerabilities stemming from structural racism, and inequities in access to medication for opioid use disorder and harm reduction services. Key strategies to address these inequities include the

South Florida is the domestic epicenter of the HIV epidemic. However, awareness of and access to preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remain low. This report outlines lessons learned from the development and implementation of the PrEParados model-a spatially explicit, social network-based approach designed to engage adults in PrEP. Informed by social contagion theory, the PrEParados model integrates social network and geospatial methodologies to examine participant characteristics and gather information on their friendship, sexual, and substance use networks. Vaccines protect against life-threatening diseases and save millions of lives each year in people of all ages, but vaccination rates remain suboptimal and inequitable. Social networks, in which individuals are linked, offer capacity to transmit infectious diseases and protection against them by the diffusion of vaccination behavior. However, social networks are underutilized in public health strategies. This perspective paper advances a network-informed framework that reconceptualizes vaccination behavior as socially embedded. We integrate behavioral drivers with network processes, such as soc

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Social and environmental factors have been related to both symptom expression of disordered eating in individuals and changes in the prevalence of eating disorders (EDs) in populations. Neural differences in processing social information may contribute to EDs. This review assesses the evidence for aberrant neural responses during social processing in EDs.
RECENT FINDINGS: This review examines how constructs within the social processing domain have been evaluated by neuroimaging paradigms in EDs, including communication, affiliation, and understanding of both oneself and oth

ObjectiveTo argue that contemporary addiction psychiatry, particularly in private and mixed-sector practice, is best understood as an integrative clinical craft rather than a narrow detoxification or prescribing role.ConclusionsAddiction psychiatrists increasingly work in rooms where trauma, ambivalence, psychiatric comorbidity, physical illness, family distress, medication complexity, social adversity, and crisis arrive together. Good care requires more than technical knowledge. It requires trauma-informed engagement, careful listening, psychotherapy fluency, formulation, medical competence,

BACKGROUND: Prior research has documented the pervasive influence that peers can exert on adolescents' lives. However, knowledge on whether adolescents' perceptions of the quality of the teacher's instruction are also prone to peer influences is lacking.
METHOD: This study (N = 248 German adolescents) used longitudinal social network analysis to investigate whether (a) friends become more similar in their teaching quality perceptions (influence effects) and/or whether (b) students with initially more similar perceptions of teaching quality were more likely to become friends (selection effects

Social recognition memory (SRM) is a key determinant of social interactions. While the cerebellum emerges as an important region for social behavior, how cerebellar activity affects social functions remains unclear. We selectively increased the excitability of molecular layer interneurons (MLIs) to suppress Purkinje cell firing in the mouse cerebellar vermis. Chemogenetic perturbation of MLIs impaired SRM without affecting sociability, anxiety levels, motor coordination or object recognition. Optogenetic interference of MLIs during distinct phases of a social recognition test revealed the cere

Social characteristics and self-rating of social support by means of the Interview Schedule for Social Interaction were investigated in 75 inpatients after a suicide attempt. We found that very few suicide attempters (13%) had a well functioning relationship, and two-thirds had problems in their occupational situation. Divorced patients had unsatisfactory social interaction compared with those who were married or cohabiting and with those who were single or widowed. Employees and students more often had deep emotional relations than those who were unemployed or in vocational rehabilitation. Th

INTRODUCTION: Mental health conditions represent a global public health challenge, with persistent treatment gaps across healthcare systems despite available, effective interventions. Virtual reality therapy (VRT) offers a promising avenue for improving mental health service delivery; however, understanding practitioner acceptability is essential for successful implementation.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study examined the acceptability of VRT among mental health practitioners in Greece. Forty professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers) working across hospital,
