How Screening and Diagnostic Tools Shape Autism Prevalence in School-Aged Children: A Bibliometric-Systematic Review (2015-2025).

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) prevalence estimates vary widely across countries and over time, partly due to differences in the screening and diagnostic tools used. This study combined bibliometric analysis and systematic review methods to examine global publication trends and evaluate the use of standardized assessment tools in ASD prevalence studies involving school-aged children (typically 6-12 years). A bibliometric search of the Scopus database (2015-2025) identified 107 publications, which were analyzed for citation patterns, research themes, and geographic distribution. Of these, 18 st

Personality traits and anxiety in a Tibetan cultural context: incremental contributions of neuroticism and extraversion.

BACKGROUND: Personality traits are well-established correlates of anxiety symptoms, yet whether these associations generalize across culturally distinct populations remains insufficiently understood. This study examined the incremental explanatory value of neuroticism and extraversion for anxiety symptoms in a Tibetan sociocultural context after accounting for sociodemographic, health-related, and social-contextual factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 583 community-dwelling Tibetan adults recruited through convenience sampling in western China. Participants completed

Peer assessment of personality traits and pathology in female college students.

Assessment procedures for personality disorders (PDs) typically rely on self-reports, even though some people with PDs may be unable to view themselves realistically or are unwilling to report socially undesirable traits. Close associates may provide important information regarding the presence of PD traits. Peer nomination is a reliable and valid assessment procedure that can be adapted to the study of PDs for research purposes. This study focused on characteristic features that define narcissistic, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive PDs using information collected from both self and others

We know all too well the significant psychological impact of miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage: so where is the support?

Miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage affect a significant proportion of every population with research consistently showing it results in profound and often prolonged psychological impacts. Despite the serious psychological impacts, support for miscarriage remains grossly inadequate. There are many ways to ameliorate the impact of these losses, which are not difficult, expensive, or time consuming. At a basic level, people want and need acknowledgment and validation of their grief and loss and greater information provision at the time of loss. A clear discrepancy also exists between the berea

Social media use motives and academic performance among Saudi medical students: the mediating role of perceived stress.

BACKGROUND: A growing body of research has documented associations between social media use and perceived stress. However, the psychological mechanisms underlying these associations, particularly the role of perceived stress in the relationship between social media use motives and academic performance among medical students, remain largely unexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the relationships between social media use motives and academic performance among Saudi medical students and investigated whether perceived stress (perceived helplessness and lack of self-efficacy) mediates these r

Social Interactions and Cell Aging Dynamics in Postpartum Women.

Introduction: Psychosocial stressors are linked with declined physical and psychological health, and short telomere length (TL). While positive social interactions have been linked to improved postpartum physical and mental health, little research has explored the longitudinal effects of psychosocial stressors and telomere dynamics in the sensitive postpartum period. This study aimed to examine the effect of positive and negative social interactions on TL among first-time mothers during the first year postpartum. Methods: A cohort of 103 first-time mothers from Northern Israel completed valida

Patient mistreatment, social sharing of negative events and emotional exhaustion among Chinese nurses: the combined moderating effect of organizational support and trait resilience.

BACKGROUND: As a primary form of work-related violence in the healthcare sector, patient mistreatment negatively impacts nurses' well-being. To date, there has yet reached a definitive conclusion on the mediating mechanism and boundary conditions behind the influence of patient mistreatment on nurses' emotional exhaustion. METHODS: This study employed a convenience sampling method to recruit a sample of 1672 nurses from public hospitals in Western China. The data were collected through anonymous self-report questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression and conditional processes to

Argumentative pro-vaccination and anti-vaccination narratives in the MMR vaccine-autism controversy.

COMET 2021 Researcher Award This paper presents a discourse analysis of the public's response to UK press coverage of the debate surrounding the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and its alleged link to autism from 1998 to 2019. The analysis focuses on published readers' letters to the editor in a newspaper corpus comprising 12 national British newspapers, and on comments posted by users on the Guardian's and the Daily Mail's Facebook pages. These social media pages are dialogic sites of individual participation that allow users to discuss how the latest events and debates affect their

Character Strengths in Parents of Children With Autism, Down Syndrome and Typical Development.

PURPOSE: Concerns about possible over-reporting of posttraumatic growth (PTG) among parents of children with special needs have led researchers to consider alternative indicators of positive adaptation. This study examined whether character strengths differed according to child developmental status and parent gender. METHODS: Participants were 331 parents in Ahvaz, Iran, whose children had typical development, autism, or Down syndrome. They completed a 48-item Persian version of the Values in Action-Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) and a 13-item Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale. Given

Can Peer Victimization Invalidate the Positive Effect of Emotional Intelligence on Adolescents' Health-Related Quality of Life?

BACKGROUND: Emotional intelligence (EI) is a key factor in adolescents' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Previous research has shown that higher EI is associated with better HRQoL outcomes. However, its protective role may be weakened by adverse experiences such as peer victimization. This study examined whether forms of peer victimization moderate the relationship between EI and specific HRQoL dimensions. METHODS: A total of 1427 Spanish adolescents completed a survey-based assessment, including validated measures of victimization (APRI-Bullying), HRQoL (KIDSCREEN-52), and EI (TMMS-24

[Use of cannabis: screening strategy and evaluation of severity factors].

Cannabis consumption occupies a front place in the field of addictions in France, not only by the levels of consumption but also by the related health harms induced with a growing potentially problematic use of cannabis among young men (14% of those aged 14 to 18 in 2001). Therefore, it is not only an educational problem but also a public health issue. Harmful cannabis use must be systematically researched by history taking on the consumption of tobacco, alcohol and drugs as an integrated part of the patient's social history. The diagnostic of cannabis abuse is made by a clinical evaluation of

Quality of life of hirsute women.

Hirsutism is recognized to cause profound distress in affected women, due to cosmetic and psychosexual implications. It was evaluated in the present study by methods found to be valid and reliable in psychosomatic research. Fifty women with hirsutism belonging to the spectrum of disorders from idiopathic hirsutism to polycystic ovary syndrome, after complete medical work-up, underwent the same psychometric evaluation as 50 healthy non-hirsute women, matched for sociodemographic variables. Hirsute women had a Ferriman and Gallwey score ranging from 8 to 19. Psychometric evaluation for quality o

Digital Affective Resilience: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study of Anxiety-Related Chinese Social Media.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders, including phobias, are a growing public health concern, profoundly affecting quality of life. While existing research utilizes text-based and physiological data for detection, a multimodal, ecologically valid understanding of how anxiety is expressed and regulated in natural social contexts remains limited. Social media offers a unique setting for studying spontaneous emotional disclosure and collective coping mechanisms. METHODS: A text-mining study was conducted on 28,349 social media comments related to phobia/anxiety from three Chinese platforms (XiaoHongShu

Patient and caregiver perspective on pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis and newly developed symptom questionnaires*.

OBJECTIVE: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EE), a rare chronic inflammatory condition of the esophagus, is predominantly observed in children and is primarily manifested with feeding difficulties. To our knowledge, no self- or caregiver-reported questionnaires are available to assess pediatric EE symptoms and their impact as reported directly by children or their parents/caregivers. The objectives of this study were to characterize the symptoms and impact of EE among children as reported by patients and parents/caregivers and to assess the content validity of two newly developed pediatric eosinophil
