AIM: To examine the content of CD16, CD25, CD95, and HLA-DR antigenic determinants in induced sputum (IS) of patients with bronchial asthma (BA) and chronic obstructive bronchitis (COB).

We assessed the clinical usefulness of a real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR) method applied on sputum samples to identify Streptococcus pneumoniae in 184 consecutive patients admitted to hospital with community-acquired pneumonia.
