Trigger wrist: a case report.

Previously published reports on trigger wrist have described triggering of the fingers at the wrist. We observed a case of true triggering of the wrist that was due to a nodule in the extensor carpi radialis longus tendon as it entered the second dorsal compartment. Reduction tenoplasty of the traumatic nodule and release of the second dorsal compartment relieved all symptoms. This is the first reported case that is accurately identified as trigger wrist.

Skimboarder's toe: findings on high-field MRI.

OBJECTIVE: Our purpose is to report hyperdorsiflexion injuries of the metatarsophalangeal joints associated with the sport of skimboarding and to describe the MRI appearance of these injuries. CONCLUSION: Skimboarding can be associated with hyperdorsiflexion injuries of the metatarsophalangeal joint. MRI shows that such injuries are associated with hyperdorsiflexion of the extensor hallucis longus or extensor digitorum longus tendon, causing tear of the extensor expansion. Unlike turf toe, in which the plantar plate is involved, skimboarder's toe involves structures dorsal to the metatarsopha

Tibialis Anterior Tendon Reconstruction Utilizing Split Tendon Turn-down: A Case Report and Technique Guide.

Tibialis anterior tendon (TAT) ruptures are rare, equating to less than 1% of all musculotendinous injuries. These injuries can be acute or atraumatic, with the latter often associated with chronic degenerative tendinopathy. Surgical repair is indicated when conservative measures fail in meeting functional demands. Direct end-to-end repair is the preferred method for TAT ruptures but may not be feasible with a large tendon defect. Various surgical techniques have been described to address this pathology, including allograft tendon interposition or extensor hallucis longus (EHL) transfer. The a

HOW USEFUL IS ELASTOGRAPHY IN THE FOLLOW-UP OF ACHILLES TENDON REPAIR?

INTRODUCTION: In addition to conservative modalities in the treatment of Achilles tendon injuries, open, percutaneous and minimally invasive semi-open techniques, as well as biological open surgical repair methods are used as surgical options. Compression elastography is one of the methods used for the follow-up of treatment in Achilles tendon injuries. METHODS: 23 patients were included in our study between July 2013 and June 2014, as long as they had at least 4 years of follow-up. In the final control, the intact side and the operated side were both examined and compared. The variables were…

Pattern analysis of a complete Achilles tendon rupture suffered during high jump preparation in an official national-level athletic competition.

Elite athletes are subject to injuries like the Achilles tendon rupture. This injury requires a long recovery process, with no guarantee of returning to the pre-injury level. When a rupture happens during natural life, movement analysis can provide useful insights concerning patterns of rupture to understand and prevent Achilles tendon injuries. Here we determined the pattern of rupture of an Achilles tendon (AT) in an elite high-jumper athlete who ruptured an AT during the straight line running phase in preparation for a high-jump attempt. This study is a novel case report regarding a nationa…

[Traumatic muscle and tendon ruptures of the lower extremities in sport: adductor muscles, M. rectus femoris and M. biceps femoris].

Ruptures of the adductor muscles, the M. rectus femoris or the M. biceps femoris are sports injuries which need quick and reliable diagnostic management. Treatment of muscle injuries is mostly conservative; complete tendon ruptures or avulsion fractures of the tendons are treated operatively according to the dislocation and the functional loss.

Emergency management of hand injuries. When to repair, when to refer.

The primary care physician can accurately diagnose hand injuries by obtaining a thorough patient history and performing a complete physical examination of the hand. When the severity of injury is doubtful, immobilization in a splint with next-day referral is appropriate. Immediate consultation should be obtained with nerve or vascular damage, fracture-dislocation injuries, open fractures, substantial skin loss, or flexor tendon injuries at or distal to the wrist.

Anterior Knee Pain Evaluation Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction Using Anterior Half of The Peroneus Longus (AHPL) Autograft.

INTRODUCTION: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is crucial for knee stability and joint movement coordination. ACL injuries are common, often leading to knee instability and subsequent complications. ACL reconstruction is a standard treatment option, with various autograft sources available. The anterior half of the peroneus longus (AHPL) tendon has emerged as a potential alternative autograft. This study aimes to examine the anterior knee pain in ACL reconstruction using AHPL. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 51 patients with ACL injuries undergoing ACL reconstruction using the

Assessment, management, and rehabilitation of traumatic peripheral nerve injuries for non-surgeons.

Electrodiagnostic evaluation is often requested for persons with peripheral nerve injuries and plays an important role in their diagnosis, prognosis, and management. Peripheral nerve injuries are common and can have devastating effects on patients' physical, psychological, and socioeconomic well-being; alongside surgeons, electrodiagnostic medicine specialists serve a central function in ensuring patients receive optimal treatment for these injuries. Surgical intervention-nerve grafting, nerve transfers, and tendon transfers-often plays a critical role in the management of these injuries and t

Closed Traumatic A2 Through A4 Pulley Rupture and Flexor Digitorum Superficialis Avulsion Treated With Reconstruction.

Background: Multiple closed spontaneous pulley ruptures are rare injuries and require surgical reconstruction to prevent functional deficits. Pulley rupture combined with avulsion of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) tendon is an even more uncommon occurrence. Case Report: We describe a closed traumatic annular 2 (A2) through annular 4 (A4) pulley rupture with avulsion of the FDS tendon. This uniquely associated pathology was treated with a complex surgical reconstruction that corrected flexion contracture and tendon bowstringing in the left long finger. The desired outcome was achieved

[Treatment of mallet finger with dorsal nail glued splint: retrospective analysis of 270 cases].

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Management of mallet finger is both difficult and controversial. Sequelae are not uncommon, particularly after surgical treatment. Many authors advocate orthopedic treatment which is less invasive but requires greater patient participation to implement. Despite the large number of orthopedic methods proposed, none has proven superiority. We report here our experience with a dorsal adhesive splint which preserves digital pulp function and improves observance. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective analysis included 270 mallet fingers presenting 153 tendon injuries and 1…

A Single-Bundle Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Technique Using Quadrupled Semitendinosus Tendon With Tibial Double Knotless Anchor Fixation And Femoral Suspensory Fixation.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a common sports injury and has a significant effect on knee function. Its injury can seriously affect athletic ability and quality of life and may lead to complications such as secondary osteoarthritis. ACL reconstruction is an important means of treating ACL injury, which is usually accomplished under arthroscopy by using autologous grafts of bone-tendon-bone or hamstring tendon. This article describes a modified single-bundle ACL reconstruction technique based on autologous grafts of the semitendinosus tendon. By adopting the strategy of only a sing
