We present the case of a closed traumatic disruption of the thumb radial sagittal band (RSB) that sonographically mimicked rupture of the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon. This injury was treated with primary repair of the RSB and lead to a good functional outcome for the patient. This case report highlights how early recognition and treatment can lead to a good functional outcome.

We treated a patient with skin and tendon defects of both hands as a result of injury by a heat press. There have been no reports of bilateral hand injuries being treated using simultaneous bilateral tendocutaneous flaps. In this case, we reconstructed the injured tissue using simultaneous bilateral radial forearm tendocutaneous flaps, with satisfactory results.

Normal hand function is a balance between the extrinsic and intrinsic musculature. Although individually the intrinsics are small muscles in diameter, collectively they represent a large muscle that contributes approximately 50% of grip strength. Dysfunction of the intrinsics consequently leads to impaired grip and pinch strength as well recognized deformities. Low ulnar nerve palsy preserves ulnar innervated extrinsics resulting in sensory loss, digital clawing, thumb deformity, abduction of the small finger, and asynchronous finger motion. High ulnar nerve palsy is characterized by the above

The overlapping fifth toe has often a congenital origin. It may be isolated or associated with an another pathology, congenital or acquired, but the relationship between them. Cannot be ascertained. The overlapping fifth toe is responsible for an esthetic deficit and/or a functional discomfort, it justifies a correct surgery. Twenty-one feet in 16 patients aged from 2 to 30 years (especially between 5 and 15 years) have been operated on and reviewed after a mean follow-up of 4 years. The Nalebuff classification, widely used by hand surgeons, describes six different canonical patterns. However, combined deformities are rarely reported, despite their significant impact on surgical decision-making. We present a dual-purpose extensor pollicis longus (EPL) transfer designed to address combined type I Boutonnière deformity and type IV metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint ulnar instability in rheumatoid thumb deformities. In two cases, a transosseous tunnel was drilled from dorsal to ulnar at the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb, allowing passage and dorsal fixation of the EPL

Extensor tendon injury is a frequent finding in clinical practice. During a routine dissection class of undergraduate medical students exami … and tendons could possibly be utilized for tendon reconstructions such as repairs, tenoplasties or tendon transfers.

Restoration of finger extension in mutilating hand injuries is crucial for restoring prehension and independent use of the hand. Patients often express desire to restore finger extension once finger flexion is achieved. However, the extensive forearm injury precludes use of any of conventional donors like the wrist or finger flexors for transfer to restore finger extension. Two patients with sequelae of mangled forearm injuries, underwent biceps and long head of triceps transfer to the finger extensors to improve opening up of the fingers. We discuss the treatment considerations while planning

The wrist is affected in all the forms of arthrogryposis and is a common site requiring surgical intervention. The wrist usually has a flexi … intercarpal wedge resection osteotomy and extensor carpi ulnaris to extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon transfer to be most effective and reliable. Patient and parental satisfaction with early surgical intervention is often satisfactory. Level of Evidence: Level V (Therapeutic).

INTRODUCTION: We present a case of spontaneous rupture of the extensor hallucis longus (EHL) tendon with significantly retracted tendon edge … e EHL to achieve a tension-free repair. This bypasses any use of bridging allografts and autografts/tendon transfer, removing complications commonly associated with them.
CONCLUSION: This turndown flap technique is easy to perform, reduces surgical time, avoids complications associated with tendon grafting, and results in good functional outcomes for the patient …

Rupture of the patellar tendon following TKA is fortunately an uncommon complication with an incidence of 0.2-4% (Abril et al. 1995). Numerous options have been reported for treating this complication, including primary suture into a bone trough (Abril et al. 1995), autogenous tendon transfer (Cadambi and Engh 1992), and use of an artificial ligament (Fujikawa et al. 1994). Allograft patellar tendon has also been utilized either retaining the host patella and using a bone-tendon-bone graft or excising the host patella and using a quadriceps tendon-patella-patellar tendon-tibial tubercle graft …

Thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint hyperextension is a well-established sequela of advanced carpometacarpal (CMC) joint arthritis. This deformity results in poor patient function because the ability to perform key pinch is negatively affected. For this reason, surgeons must consider the presence of an MCP deformity when addressing CMC arthritis. A variety of nonsurgical and surgical interventions have emerged. Surgical treatments can be grouped into four main categories: (1) volar plate advancement/capsulodesis, (2) tendon transfer and tenodesis, (3) sesamoidesis, and (4) arthrodesis. Surgi…

Hallux varus is a rare foot deformity due to iatrogenic, post-traumatic, idiopathic, inflammatory, spontaneous, or congenital pathologies. Acquired hallux varus, in particular, iatrogenic type, is the commonest. The primary pathology is the abnormal musculotendinous forces secondary to soft tissue or bony imbalance exerting varus deforming force. Understanding the anatomy of the hallux stabilisers and the pathophysiology of hallux varus is vital in its management. It would be helpful to understand the potential surgical pitfalls leading to iatrogenic hallux varus. This literature review summar

Gleich-Koutsogiannis is a widely known extra-articular closing calcaneal osteotomic technique for correction of the adult flatfoot. Absolute care must be observed during each procedural step to avoid undesirable drawbacks, such as nerves and tendons lesions, incorrect fixation, and hardware painful prominence. It is the purpose of this report to introduce tricks to critical steps in order to improve the technique and minimize potential surgical complications.
