[Primary care of extensor tendon injuries].

Therapeutic conclusions are derived from the anatomical peculiarities of the extensor apparatus of the fingers and the extensor tendons of the metacarpus and the wrist. In open wounds primary sutures are universally possible and promising except in cases with tendon defects or with special risk of infection. Our preferred technique employs a central wire suture which is barbed to resist proximal traction, combined with fine peripheral sutures. In closed ruptures at the DIP-level conservative as well as operative treatment can be advised, whereas at the PIP-joint and in more proximal regions op…

[Rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon].

On the basis of an extensive follow-up study, the transfer of the extensor indicis tendon to the thumb following rupture of the extensor pollicis longus is recommended as the procedure of choice. If attention is paid to certain technical details, good to very good results can be obtained.

[Rupture of the quadriceps tendon (author's transl)].

Whereas a spontaneous rupture of the quadriceps tendon was seldom observed in earlier times, this injury seems to be occurring more frequently in recent years, a fact which may be explained by the rising average age of the population. Metabolic disturbances, rheumatic diseases, repeated traumata and aging processes can produce a certain disposition to rupture by degenerative changes in tendon tissue. Only very rarely does a trauma directly affecting the tendon come into consideration as the actual cause of the rupture. Early operative treatment of the rupture by suture of the extensor apparatu

[Treatment of traumatic sections of the Achilles tendon].

The author maintains that the atrophy of the sural triceps muscle, the retraction of the Achille tendon and the osteoporosis of the calcaneum and of the tarsian bones, occurring after the traumatic sectioning of the Achille tendon, are the results of an inadequate treatment. The cause of these sequellae is the immobilization of the foot in an equinus position, which relaxes the sural triceps and as a result of the lack of mechanical traction factor, leads to local circulatory disturbances followed by a modification in the structure of the bone and of the muscle. On the basis of this pathophysi

[Conservative treatment of extensor tendon injuries].

Report on 35 cases of mallet finger treated conservatively: a circular plaster cast was modeled in hyperextension of the distal interphalangeal joint. The immobilisation of the whole finger form the tip to the proximal phalanx was maintained for six weeks. The reported results were good or excellent with the exception of two cases.

Repair of extensor tendon injuries of the hand.

We have presented methods for treating extensor tendon injuries from the interphalangeal joint to the wrist and the musculotendinous junction in the forearm. Early and proper splinting in the treatment of extensor tendon injuries is more important than a specific method of surgical repair. We emphasize the need for prolonged splinting, up to eight weeks in distal injuries. Immobilizing the finger in full extension or hyperextension is necessary at the distal and proximal interphalangeal joints. Correct splinting is mandatory in any method of treatment. Reconstruction of the extensor mechanism

A prospective randomized controlled study of hamstring and bone-free quadriceps tendons autografts in arthroscopic ACL reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is one of the most common surgical procedures worldwide. However, the ideal graft source is still debatable. This study compared hamstring (HT) and bone-free quadriceps (QT) tendon autografts in terms of muscle strength and patient-reported outcomes. METHODS: Between June 2018 and December 2019, 46 patients were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to one of two groups for the ACL reconstruction surgery-the HT autograft group or the QT autograft group. An experienced examiner performed preoperative and postoperative examinat
