OBJECTIVE: Dysregulated APRIL/BAFF signaling is implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus nephritis. We undertook this study to develop and evaluate a high-affinity APRIL/BAFF antagonist to overcome the clinical limitations of existing B cell inhibitors.

Testicular torsion is a commonly encountered medical emergency in children. A 10-year-old boy with diagnostically confirmed leukemia presented with new onset testis swelling. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a severe autoimmune blistering disease associated with an underlying malignancy, and its prognosis is poor. BACKGROUND: Rituximab is effective against complicated childhood steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome (SDNS). Peripheral blood B-lymphocyte (B-cell) depletion is strongly correlated with persistent remission, relapse rarely occurring during B-cell depletion; however, we have encountered several such patients.
