g-C3N4 with a sustainable biomass-derived zinc vanadate hybrid supported on an industrial polyurethane sponge for methanol oxidation fuel cells and integrated with ML prediction models.

The efficacy of the methanol oxidation reaction is a primary prerequisite for an electrocatalyst in a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), which is influenced by the catalyst material and its synthesis technique. This study presents a novel electrocatalyst, specifically zinc vanadate (ZnV), graphitic nitride (CN), and the ZnV/CN nanohybrid, which were synthesized using a hydrothermal technique. This material serves as an anode on a polyurethane sponge sheet as the supporting substrate. The physical and chemical properties of the electrocatalyst were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SE

Study of the probiotic properties of Lacticaseibacillus casei subsp. casei NCIM 5752 and the optimization of whey-based media for the production of its biomass using response surface methodology.

BACKGROUND: There is a scarcity of studies that examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on different primary paediatric health services beyond the first pandemic year and with longitudinal analytical approaches. Concerning Switzerland, studies are also lacking that assessed the impact of the pandemic on primary paediatric health services with objective and representative data. The current study addresses these research gaps. METHODS: Representative Swiss health insurance data (covering 96% of the population) of 0-18-year-olds, aggregated by month and by age groups 0-5, 6-10, 11-15 and 16

Efficacy evaluation of a fermented milk containing inactivated biomasses of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to ameliorate the toxic effects of dietary aflatoxins and fumonisins in pigs: a pilot study.

Inactivated microorganisms may reduce mycotoxins' bioavailability, although in vivo evidence is limited especially in farm animals. This pilot study evaluated whether a fermented milk (FM) containing heat-inactivated biomasses of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 1% (w/w) mitigated the toxic effects of dietary aflatoxins (AFs) and fumonisins (FBs) in weaned piglets. Twenty-four male crossbred piglets were assigned to a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial design (n = 3 per group) with AFs (0; 1.11-1.28 mg/kg, sum of AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2), FBs (0.78-0.99; 9.22-9.53 mg/kg, sum of …

Synergistic Effect of Indole-3-Acetic Acid and Homogeneously Dispersed Ulva prolifera-Derived Carbon Quantum Dots in Enhancing CO2 Fixation, Biomass Production, and Macromolecules in Chlorella vulgaris.

To address light attenuation caused by self-shading in dense microalgal cultures within photobioreactors, this study proposes a synergistic strategy employing Ulva prolifera-derived carbon quantum dots (U-CQDs) combined with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Hydrothermally synthesized U‑CQDs exhibiting fluorescence emission at 580 nm were homogeneously suspended in the culture, converting UV‑blue light into orange‑red wavelengths readily absorbed by microalgae, thereby improving light distribution uniformity. The combination of 1 mg·L-1 U-CQDs and 5 mg·L-1 IAA increased biomass production to 2.17 g·…

Recycling spent ternary lithium-ion batteries for modification of dolomite used in catalytic biomass pyrolysis - A preliminary study by thermogravimetric and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis.

This paper proposed a novel method for modification of dolomite (Do) using the leaching solution derived from the spent ternary LIBs. During catalytic pyrolysis of biomass, the modified Do showed a good performance on both reducing the activation energy and upgrading the volatile products. The apparent activation energy was decreased from 201 to 180 kJ/mol for the cellulose pyrolysis, and it was decreased from 80 to 75 kJ/mol for the lignin pyrolysis. The cellulose pyrolysis with the modified Do could significantly promote the conversion of anhydrosugars into small-molecule components (e.g., k…

Extremely acidic condition (pH<1.0) as a novel strategy to achieve high-efficient hydrogen sulfide removal in biotrickling filter: Biomass accumulation, sulfur oxidation pathway and microbial analysis.

Extremely acidic conditions (pH < 1.0) during hydrogen sulfide (H2S) biotreatment significantly reduce the cost of pH regulation; however, there remain challenges to its applications. The present study investigated the H2S removal and biomass variations in biotrickling filter (BTF) under long-term highly acidic conditions. A BTF operated for 144 days at pH 0.5-1.0 achieved an H2S elimination capacity (EC) of 109.9 g/(m3·h) (removal efficiency = 97.0%) at an empty bed retention time of 20 s, with an average biomass concentration at 20.6 g/L-BTF. The biomass concentration at neutral pH increased…

An optimal conversion cascading of distinct lignocelluloses to maximize bioethanol productivity and bio-adsorption capacities of Cd2+/Cr(VI) and red/blue dyes selective for complete biomass recycling.

Although agriculture and forestry provide enormous lignocellulose resources, it remains to explore a novel technology for efficient biomass conversion into renewable bioethanol followed with complete recycling for valuable bioproduction with zero- waste release. As classic chemical (acid and alkali) pretreatments could cause chemical waste liberation, this study performed optimal pretreatments with hot-FeCl3 for sequentially enhancing biomass enzymatic saccharification in three bioenergy crops, which led to achieving hexoses yields raised by 4-7 times compared to the controls. By employing eng…
