PURPOSE: To develop and validate a method to quantify posterior capsule opacification (PCO) in eyes after cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation using Scheimpflug Pentacam tomograms and compare its validity with slit lamp retroillumination image analysis.

There are a growing number of reports comparing wireless capsule endoscopy (CE) to other diagnostic tests for use in patients with Crohn's disease. OBJECTIVES: Carcinoid tumors are the most common GI neuroendocrine tumors (NET). They often originate in the small intestine. The primary tumor is often difficult to locate, and resection in an early phase is recommended to prevent complications. This study evaluated the value of videocapsule endoscopy (VCE) in the detection of small-intestinal primary carcinoid tumor.
DESIGN: Prospective descriptive study.
SETTING: Tertiary referral center.

We report a case of a 74-year-old man with a Clark's level II, 2.5 mm melanoma on his back that was excised. A post-operative PET scan found no lesions. One and a half years later, the patient developed anaemia with blood in his stool. A gastroscopy and colonoscopy found no lesions. Video capsule endoscopy, however, detected a tumour in the small intestine. At laparotomy, the tumour was removed. Histological diagnosis showed metastatic malignant melanoma. We believe that video capsule endoscopy may increase the rate of diagnosis of small-bowel melanoma metastases.

The case of a 59-year-old man with a history of recurrent severe gastrointestinal bleeding due to Meckel's diverticulum is described. The diagnosis was achieved by means of capsule endoscopy. The histological examination revealed the presence of Meckel's diverticulum with ectopic gastric mucosa. The use of capsule endoscopy for the detection of Meckel's diverticulum is discussed.
