The author presents a technical variation of the sub-mental flap including in a conventional pedicled flap both sub-mental axes and their anastomoses on the midline. The assessment of the first flaps raised according to this method confirms the improvement of the distal blood supply. Herein we describe a rare case of exclusive submental dermoid cyst in the first decade of life. The preoperative ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosis was confirmed by the results of a histopathological examination. US followed by MRI is the gold standard for the non-invasive diagnostic differentiation of dermoid cysts from other submental swellings and submental excision remains the best surgical option.

We describe the case of a 45-year-old man who presented with a 5-month history of unilateral pruritic linear erythematous papules and atrophy on the chin and mandibular area. Dermoscopy showed areas of cicatricial alopecia with absence of follicular openings, perifollicular erythema and pigment. Lichen planopilaris of the face is a rare variant with only 13 cases reported in the literature.

A 42-year-old man presented himself with a complaint of recurrent swelling of the chin. After clinical and radiographic examination, it was shown to be an injury caused by the use of an insufficiently disinfected mouthpiece when diving at an exotic destination. Oral injuries caused by diving mouthpieces are widely known. It is less well known that an untreated injury can ultimately lead to tooth loss.

A 76-year-old woman presented with fever, redness, swelling, and pain under the chin. Some submental lymph nodes were detected by ultrasound and computed tomography. The diagnosis was a submental phlegmon, for which surgery was performed. The lymph nodes were removed, and antibiotic therapy with daily lavage was done. The histology of the lymph nodes suggested giant cell arteritis.

The authors report their experience with sixteen consecutive cases of maxillo-malar osteotomy via an intraoral approach. Some technical expedients and modifications to the original technique are described here. This procedure was associated in all cases with bilateral sagittal splitting of the mandible and in two cases with vertical reduction of the chin. Results from this series confirm the reliability of this technique and the stability of functional and aesthetic results.

A patient who was infested with scabies subsequently developed recurrent herpes genitalis. Scratching the scabetic lesions resulted in self-inoculation with herpes on the lower abdomen and chin. Inoculation herpes is one of the most common complications of HSV-2 infection. The infection can be divided into primary, latent, shedding and recurrent stages. Pruritic lesions such as scabies complicate the management in herpes.

Mental nerve neuropathy causes the "numb chin" syndrome and is usually associated with mandibular bone injury or disease in adults. It has been reported in adults during sickle cell crises. We describe a 15-year-old boy who developed bilateral mental nerve neuropathies during a sickle cell crisis. This case is unusual because of the simultaneous bilateral involvement and because of the age.
