BACKGROUND AND AIMS: One major problem in the management of steroid refractory attacks of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is the establishment of a rapidly acting immunosuppressive regimen. During a pharmacokinetic study of 31 courses in 20 patients of cyclophosphamide and its activated metabolite 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide given in the combination cyclophosphamide thioTEPA carboplatin, a sharp decrease in 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide concentration was observed immediately after the start of the thioTEPA infusion. We retrospectively evaluated 443 breast cancer patients treated with high-dose cyclophosphamide, cisplatin, and BCNU (STAMP-I) with autologous stem cell support to characterize the cardiac toxicity of this regimen. Patients had stage II-III (n = 243) or stage IV (n = 200) breast cancer. BACKGROUND: Optic neuropathy is a rare manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In a previous series most patients with optic neuropathy in association with SLE had a final visual acuity of 20/200 or less despite corticosteroid therapy.
METHODS: Three patients (five affected eyes) with severe retrobulbar optic neuropathy in association with SLE were treated promptly with intravenous cyclophosphamide and corticosteroids.

A 77-year-old male presented at our Department of Urology in August 1990 with a gradually enlarging swelling in the right scrotum. On August 21, right high orchietomy was performed. A new combination chemotherapy(VEPA) was applied to 9 patients with advanced and/or non-resectable primary gastric lymphoma. Among 6 patients with measurable disease, there were 3 (50%) complete responses and 1 (17%) incomplete response. None of 3 patients with lymph node and/or anastomosis involvements at the gastrectomy have relapsed after 13 months to 32 months. Complications during chemotherapy with VEPA were mild myelosuppression and gastrointestinal disturbances, and severe alopecia. A patient with Wegener's granulomatosis underwent successful kidney transplantation. After four years he had a recurrence of his disease while being maintained on azathiorpine.
