Although parathyroid cysts are rarely described in the literature, they should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cysts occurring in the anterior compartment of the neck. We report two cases. The presence of elevated parahormone in the clear fluid aspirate is the diagnostic criterion. Parathyroid cysts may be functional, probably resulting from cystic formation of a parathyroid adenoma, or non function with their own epithelial lining, probably arising from remnants of the pharyngeal pouch or Kursteiner's canal. Search for both hypercalcemia and hypophosphoremia are needed. Fine ne

INTRODUCTION: Hydatidosis is endemic in the Mediterranean region including morrocco, the Middle and Far East, Australia, New Zealand, and South America-all areas where animal husbandry is common. Rupture into the abdominal cavity is a rare but serious complication of hydatid disease. The cysts may be ruptured after a trauma, or spontaneously as a result of increased intracystic pressure. Rupture of the hydatid cyst requires emergency surgical intervention.
METHODS: Fourteen patients received surgical treatment for intraperitoneal rupture of the cysts over a period of 5 years. Age, gender, tim

BACKGROUND: Omental cyst and omental torsion both are uncommon but important causes of acute abdomen with a difficult clinical diagnosis due to nonspecific features. Here we report a case of an eight year old child with acute abdominal pain referred for USG and CT scan which revealed two cysts in greater omentum leading to secondary omental torsion.
CASE REPORT: An eight year old male child presented to casualty with severe pain abdomen since 1 day. There was no history of vomiting or altered bowel habits. The patient was febrile with tachycardia on arrival. On examination rigidity and tender

OBJECTIVE: Hemorrhage into ovarian cysts is a frequent and potentially life-threatening complication in women on chronic anticoagulation therapy. This article presents the CT findings of three surgically confirmed cases of symptomatic hemorrhagic ovarian cysts associated with anticoagulation therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: There were two cases of unruptured hemorrhagic ovarian cysts: a patient with two corpus luteum cysts of menstruation and a patient with a serous cystadenoma.
RESULTS: Each mass had a rounded central region of high attenuation (76, 62, and 50 HU) representing blood that was

Five cases of nontraumatic intradiploic arachnoid cysts in elderly patients are reported. All cysts were located in the occipital bone and appeared as well-demarcated radiolucent lesions. The cysts were multiple in three cases. Presenting symptoms included headache or dizziness, but most lesions were asymptomatic and found incidentally. In the most recent three cases, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging revealed intradiploic cysts containing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with cerebellar herniation. Operation found the cysts filled with CSF and dural defects through which cerebellar tissue was herniati

Tarlov cysts or perineural cysts are extradural cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-filled sacs commonly found in the sacral spine. Their clinical significance is often underestimated due to diagnostic challenges. This case report describes a female patient presenting with rectal pain, coccydynia, dyspareunia and urinary symptoms. Initial imaging revealed a 4 cm Tarlov cyst at the S3 level, along with two smaller cysts between the S1 and S2 vertebrae. Despite significant symptomatology, spontaneous regression of the S3 cyst was observed within 4 months, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled surgica

Popliteal cysts, often referred to as Baker's cysts, are a common occurrence in the adult knee. Although controversy exists as to the exact indications for treatment, these structures can cause extreme discomfort and morbidity, including pain from rupture and symptoms from neurovascular compromise. Prior to the development of the arthroscope, open treatment of popliteal cysts was not uncommon. Complications such as poor wound healing, cyst recurrence, and knee flexion contractures were reported after such treatment. Owing to the presence of a valve-type structure, also called the posterior tra

Arachnoid cysts are benign cysts occurring in the intra-arachnoid space and containing cerebrospinal fluid. They constitute approximately 1 per cent of all intracranial masses. They are uncommon in the posterior cranial fossa. Common presenting symptoms include headaches, seizures, focal neurologic signs and vague dizziness. Magnetic resonance imaging is the preferred method of investigation, and the treatment for symptomatic cysts is generally surgical drainage. We report the unusual presentation of a young patient with a posterior fossa arachnoid cyst that manifested in the form of isolated

Between 1974 and 1993, 22 adults with bronchogenic cysts were operated in our hospital: 14 men and 8 women, ranging from 11 to 62 years old. The location was mediastinal in 13 (59.1%) and intrapulmonary in 9 (40.9%). Cysts were symptomatic (chest pain and recurrent bronchiolitis) in 20 patients (91%). The perioperative complications include infection in lungs and in the cysts and dysphagia due to esophageal compression. Chest pain was the main symptom in mediastinal cyst and recurrent infection of lungs in intrapulmonary cysts. Plain chest radiographs showed round shadows. Occasional air-fluid

OBJECT: Arachnoid cysts are commonly encountered fluid collections in the central nervous system. Recent advances in neuroimaging have translated into an increased detection of these cysts; that is, diagnoses can be made more frequently at earlier stages. Significant advances have also been made in the surgical management of these lesions. The authors report on a case series that illustrates the diverse forms of presentation and the treatment modalities commonly used for arachnoid cysts.
METHODS: Between January 2002 and December 2006, 20 patients with arachnoid cysts underwent surgery perfor

Knee cysts are a common finding in orthopedic practice, with diagnoses that range from benign fluid collections to more complex lesions requiring intervention. This comprehensive review explores the types of cysts around the knee, including popliteal (Baker's) cysts, meniscal cysts, proximal tibiofibular joint cysts, and ganglion cysts within the cruciate ligaments. The review highlights the mechanisms of formation, clinical presentations, diagnostic methods, differential diagnoses, and treatments for each cyst type. Imaging, particularly MRI, plays a critical role in accurate diagnosis, helpi

Squamoid cyst of pancreatic duct is a rare benign pancreatic lesion that is rarely encountered in fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and surgical resection specimens. Pancreatic stones can be seen in chronic pancreatitis, but stone-related crystals have previously not been described in pancreatic cytology. Presented here is a case report of a squamoid cyst of pancreatic duct with concurrent pancreatic duct stones. We describe the cytomorphology of this benign cyst, as well as the remarkable finding of polymorphous crystals on cyst fluid aspirate. We also describe the histology of the surgically rese…

We present an unusual case of cardiac tamponade in a 17-year-old girl immunocompetent patient due to Salmonella enterica ssp. bredeney following infection of a bronchogenic cyst. The patient was admitted to hospital with pleuritic chest pain, dyspnoea and fever. Pulmonary angio-CT showed a bronchogenic cyst compressing the left atrium. The echocardiography showed diffuse pericardial effusion with right ventricular collapse consistent with cardiac tamponade. Pericardiocentesis was performed and microbiological cultures of the pericardial fluid became positive for Salmonella species confirmed la

A conjunctival cyst is a thin-walled sac or vesicle that contains fluid. This vesicle may develop either on or under the conjunctiva. It develops due to variety of causes such as infection, inflammation, retention cyst and rarely drug induced. The authors aimed to report a case of conjuctival cyst in a 34-year-old male following instillation of anti-allergic topical drugs for over period of one year. Conjuctival cyst developing due to chronic use of anti-allergic topical drugs containing preservatives is one of the complications associated with it. Presence of a preservative in an ocular medic

Hepatic cysts derived from intrahepatic bile ducts are the most common extrarenal manifestation of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Cyst enlargement involves cell proliferation, fluid secretion into cysts, and alterations in extracellular matrix. To study hepatic cyst formation, continuous cell lines from human normal intrahepatic biliary epithelium (IBE) and ADPKD liver cyst-derived epithelium (LCDE) were developed. Because matrix degradation and remodeling are important for cyst formation and growth, we investigated matrix modifying enzymes expressed in IBE and LCDE cell

A case of thoracic duct cyst was reported. The patient, 72 year old man, was admitted with chief complaint of dysphagia. Chest X-ray film demonstrated an ovoid mass at the right upper mediastinum and the esophagus pressed by the tumor to the right. CT scan showed a round tumor with obscure margin located at the right upper mediastinum. Other laboratory data were almost within normal limits. Thoracotomy was performed on March 26, 1987 under diagnosis of leiomyoma of the esophagus. A fluid containing cyst covered with pleura was found at the upper mediastinum. The tumor was connected to the thor

Baker's cysts, also known as popliteal cysts, are fluid-filled sacs that are found in the posterior region of the knee, behind the medial head of the gastrocnemius and the semimembranosus. The prevalence has been found to increase with age, with some ultrasonographic studies showing a prevalence as high as 25% of adults with knee pain. We discuss an interesting case of a 14-year- old male with a ruptured cyst found to be secondary to Lyme disease. The patient was treated with clindamycin and his symptoms had resolved. We discuss cases of ruptured baker's cysts in the literature found to be sec
