BACKGROUND: Inhalation corticosteroids (CSs), despite their wide use, rarely cause sensitization in subjects administering them.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the cause of sensitization and/or of allergic contact dermatitis which occurred in air-exposed body areas of patients reacting to corticosteroids and to budesonide, in particular.
METHODS: We reviewed the patch test results and sensitization sources in patients who reacted positively to corticosteroids tested in the K.U. Leuven Dermatology department during an 18-year period.

Methylmethacrylate was first reported in 1941 as a cause of contact dermatitis. Since then, occupational contact allergies to acrylates in dentistry, orthopedic surgery, printing industry and industry have been reported, but few reports are found in the literature as a consequence of the contact with sculptured artificial acrylic nails which are increasingly popular. BACKGROUND: Occupational risk for laboratory animal allergy (LAA) is well known, but prevention is often insufficient and new cases keep appearing.
METHODS: A questionnaire on work-related symptoms was sent to all laboratory animal workers in Kuopio University. Subjects with rhinitis were invited to an examination for LAA, which consisted of an otorhinolaryngological examination and skin prick testing (SPT) with 16 common environmental allergens and two to five relevant laboratory animals. In cases of occupational sensitization, a challenge test was performed.

The inhalation of wood dust may produce allergic rhinitis, asthma, or contact dermatitis in sensitized patients. We describe a patient with occupational asthma induced by the inhalation of samba (Triplochiton scleroxylon) wood dust. A specific bronchial provocation test was conducted, and the patient showed a significant decrease in forced-expiratory volume in first second (FEV1) after the inhalation of nebulized samba wood allergens.
