We report a 13-year-old girl with bloody nipple discharge as a result of mammary duct ectasia. Our patient is the second reported case of mammary duct ectasia in a pubertal girl.

A 76-year-old woman with annuloaortic ectasia, aortic regurgitation, and aneurysmal dilatation extending from the root to mid descending aorta presented with symptoms of bronchial compression and obstructive pneumonitis. Despite vigorous antibiotic treatment and physiotherapy, the pneumonitis persisted with clinical and radiologic deterioration. An emergency operation was performed to relieve bronchial compression. The operation comprised homograft aortic root replacement with prosthetic replacement of the arch and descending aorta. Postoperatively the pneumonia rapidly resolved.

We report herein the case of a 76-year-old man for whom an invasive mucin-producing tumor of the pancreas (MPTP) was successfully treated by surgery. A cystic lesion of the pancreas had been found by computed tomography (CT) 9 years earlier, 2 years following which suction drainage for left pyothorax had been carried out. A 17-year-old, castrated male domestic shorthair cat presented with nonspecific clinical findings of three days' duration. Complete blood counts and serum biochemistry profiles revealed evidence of hepatic dysfunction. Ultrasonographic evaluation revealed abnormalities consistent with pancreatitis, with suspected pancreatic duct dilatation in the left limb of the pancreas. In order to study the behavior of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CAE), we assayed the concentrations of CEA in 67 nipple discharges of women with duct ectasia of the breast by means of a fluoroimmunoassay (EG & G. Wallac. Finland). BACKGROUND: Idiopathic root dilatation often results in dysfunction of an otherwise normal aortic valve. To examine the effect of root dilatation on leaflet stress, strain, and coaptation, we utilized a finite element model.
METHODS: The normal model incorporated the geometry, tissue thickness, stiffness, and collagen fiber alignment of normal human roots and valves. We evaluated four dilatation models in which diameters of the aortic root were dilated by 5%, 15%, 30%, and 50%. Regional stress and strain were evaluated and leaflet coaptation percent was calculated under diastolic pressure.

Premature foramen ovale (FO) closure has been postulated as a cause of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. We suggest that premature FO closure is also associated with left ventricular (LV) dilation and LV thrombus formation, and that FO closure in patients with aortic stenosis and LV dilation is a secondary event that occurs later in gestation than that seen with the hypoplastic left heart.

The Hirschsprung's disease course, complicated by significant dilatation of colon, was considered in 37 patients. The late diagnosis constitutes the cause of the complication occurrence. The "giant" colon is revealed predominantly in senior children with short and ultrashort aganglyosis zone. Surgical treatment needs application of complex, frequently nonstandard methods because of inconcordance of the hypertrophic and dilated intestine size to the size of the anal canal, causing the trophic changes occurrence in the anastomosis region.
